How are your DC?

DC finished school/nursery today (age 6 and 3). Both been poorly but thankfully on the mend!

DS6 is getting stroppy and upset at the littlest things! DC3 is their usual self to be honest as they’re tricky all year round!

Top tips on calming before the excitement of Christmas welcome! Mine need exercise and fresh air but the weather doesn’t help!

Mine are the same age but don’t finish nursery and school until tomorrow. They really could do with a day or two of decompression at the end of term. The youngest is especially bouncing off the walls and my oldest is anxious about what is happening on each day of the holidays. On Saturday we are going to go swimming and soft play and church nativity early evening.

Postcovid · 22/12/2022 21:30

It’s so late to finish isn’t it! Everyone I know is either ill or just coming out of a bout of illness. We’re lucky we’re the latter.

Swimming is a good idea, mine aren’t well enough to do that tomorrow otherwise we would.

Your list made me smile. Its a mini commentary on the stages of life.

@Postcovid my youngest has had more time off nursery than in over the last month.
Would they manage 30 mins at the park with hot chocolate or a walk to look at the Christmas lights. If it’s raining a bit of puddle jumping.

Mine broke up on Friday last week, thank goodness. They really needed a break. Really feel for dc (and parents… and teachers) breaking up so late.
We’ve had a pretty chilled out week, lots of quiet home activities, and one Xmassy outing. They were both full of cold when they broke up.
DD6 is fully recharged after the last half term of school, and full of festive cheer.
DS4 has had a bit of a temperature last couple of days, but seems to be coming out of it. He’s flipping between grumpy/over-stimulated and bonkers/over-excited.

Postcovid · 22/12/2022 21:41

@upfucked same, DC3 only went back on Tuesday this week after over a week off! Yes we will definitely head out in wellies etc even if it doesn’t dry up all day, I just wish it would be dry as I can get them out in the morning. They’re like dogs and need regular walking!

@troppibambini6 i enjoyed that too! Wow 6 DC. Hope your eldest feels better soon. My eldest is like your youngest - antagonistic. Love that adjective.

Love this post! Poor DD with the puke, at least it made it into the bag. My kids are a bit wild, snotty and knackered. Agree finishing on the 23rd is too late. I’d keep them off tomorrow if I didn’t need to be free of them for one last day!!

Postcovid · 22/12/2022 21:44

@nomorespaghetti we finished earlier last year it was much better although I was worried about one of us catching covid!

What home activities have you done? I’m rubbish and never have any good ideas. Sounds like you spent the first week off right.

We made mince pies, with the ready roll shortcrust pastry and jar of mincemeat… very easy and they play with the pastry off-cuts for ages! We also decorated a gingerbread house (the £5 one from Aldi, surprisingly ok tasting). Done some crafty bits, made name cards for the Christmas dinner table, glued a load of rubbish to some cardboard, stuck some string on it and called it a tree decoration…! We played charades (with picture cards for the littler one who can’t read), have done Lego (building Christmas presents), watched Xmas movies, did some cosmic kids Xmas yoga, and done musical statues with Xmas music. I’m officially out of ideas now, no idea what we’re doing tomorrow!

Postcovid · 22/12/2022 22:04

Great ideas thanks!!! Although your DC are probably good at sitting and doing activities, mine not so much although they do like baking, Lego and games. Xmas musical statues is genius! Will play that tomorrow.

Aah thank you Smile

yes at the moment I pretty much have everything going on at the moment!!

There is nothing that a chill out and a bit of Christmas can't fix!! Although I must admit by the beginning of Jan I'm ready for them to all bugger off back to their lives!!

I also pointed out to pukey dd that things could have been so much worse, it was the first time she had met the sister too.
I said at least she won't forget the first time she met you Wink

troppibambini6 · 22/12/2022 22:16

Have you seen the Nutella Xmas trees
You can make?
basically ready made puff pastry and Nutella also ready made gingerbread dough is good for easy gingerbread biscuits.

Eatentoomanyroses · 22/12/2022 22:21

Dd2 was really sick at the weekend with a high temp but seems over it now except snotty, generally just her usual naughty self and wants to play with her big sister.
Dd9 is a bit stroppy and emotional. Mostly wants to play Roblox and avoid playing with her little sister. 🙁
we’ve done a few Christmas crafts and a couple of Christmas days out this week. Not sure what I’ll do with them tomorrow.

spottygymbag · 23/12/2022 12:13

DD lying in my arms with a hot wash cloth against her ear (thanks mums net) until the ibuprofen kicks in. Looks like we'll be up to the dr's first thing in the morning.
DS is asleep in his cot after refusing all food this afternoon and tonight.
DH coming down with some bug too so I
Think we might be in for a bumpy Christmas 😬

Whatdoyouthinkno · 23/12/2022 12:33

DS 12 is hormonal and mopes around like Kevin most of the time. He doesn’t want to do anything but then equally complains when he has nothing to do. Can’t win with him.
DD’s 10 and 11 are mostly content in their bedrooms playing roblox but occasionally will hear some sort of shouting match erupt if one has beat the other in a game or whatever. They’re excited for Christmas and still have the general spirit of the season which DC1 totally lacks.
DS 4 has been sick all week and has only just started to come around today. Had a bad wheezy chest from his third virus of the month so he’s been waking every other hour until last night when he finally slept though.
DS 2 caught the cold yesterday so he ended up climbing into our bed and climbed all over us all night. Not 100% himself today, praying he’s perked up for tomorrow because we’re busy all day.

I’m just knackered tbh. Just ate a slab of Christmas cake and cheese to make myself feel better.
