Your best tips for a good NYE party!

DH and I are throwing a party for around 12 adult guests, plus kids (all young teens) on NYE.

We have realised we haven't hosted a party for years, and we're suddenly having a bit of a confidence crisis about it! DH wants to ask everyone to bring a dish of nibbles, I feel that is poor show and we should provide food. But is it ok to ask people to bring some alcohol?

Do we need games? What sort? The guests don't all know each other. I'm looking forward to it but would really appreciate tips from seasoned hosts 🙏🏻

Yes a light hearted ‘bring a bottle’ text is fine
Food wise you could buy those party food trays though for 12 people you could need quite a few so I think something like a large batch of cocktail sausages chicken wings and salads - coleslaw, crusty bread

maybe a large slow cooker batch of mulled wine

make Sure you’ve lots of soft drinks / cans too

Great thank you - I was thinking of those party trays, they're not too expensive.

Will people drink mulled wine at a NYE party? Happy to make some if so, good idea.

My tip isn't to start the evening too early. nYE can really drag!

I think mulled wine is lovely and easy to make too (or buy)

you know pizzas could work really well - our local supermarket sell over the counter ones that are huge and with a few other bits - nice and easy

I agree @AtleastitsnotMonday. Really the best bit of NYE is 23:50-01:00, the rest is clock watching.

Ha, I suggested we ask people to arrive around 10.30pm 😂. In reality, we'll go for around 7ish I think.

Pizzas are a great idea, they can be eaten cold once cooked so I'll go with that. Pizzas, party trays of meat and cheese, salad and some puddings.

Games?

We usually do the food and ask people to bring their own alcohol. This seems to work well.
