Can any covid vaccinators help me find a way around this computer says no' roadblock?

I took my daughter for her first covid vaccine today. She recently turned 12 and I had been waiting until now to get her vaccinated as I feel she is better off with the adult dose rather than the child dose as she is biologically closer to an adult than a child (5'4", about 9.5-10 stone, has been having regular periods for over a year, etc). However, when the vaccinator looked at her records, the system would only allow her to give the child dose as that is what is recorded that she has been invited for - she was obviously originally invited as an under 12, but the system can't seem to cope with the fact that she is now entitled to a different dose. We declined the vaccine as I really don't see how a dose which is designed for a child as young as 5 will have any effect on someone who is physiologically a woman.

Does anyone know how I get this changed so she can have the adult dose? Do I need to speak to the GP or the covid helpline (does it even still exist??)

If you came to me I could give her the adult dose as she’s 12 or over however in Scotland we work within certain guidelines so it allows me to do that and it’s easy enough for me to decide that. If you are elsewhere in the country the systems must be different. We have nhs inform you cam call is there an equivalent you can phone to speak to someone to get her status changed. I can just give the adult dose, record what I’ve given and it’ll upload onto the system.

assuming this is the first vaccine if she’s had the first at 11 practise is to complete course with the paeds vaccine even if a child turns 12. Sorry probably not much help but must be annoying that it’s so difficult to just go ahead when you want the vaccine, can you ask the nurse to escalate to their seniors, that’s what I would do if I had a situation I couldn’t resolve myself.

Can you try another location? I've done adult and child vaccines at ours and we've had a few booked for the child one that we've moved over to the adult clinic when they arrive as they've turned 12 so it's definitely possible. I'd agree with your decision that it makes sense to give the adult dose.
Our system has all the vaccines on and we tick which one we've given.

Ok, so maybe it was this particular woman being unsure about how to do it. She did show me the screen and the big 'computer says no' message that she got when she tried to select the adult dose, but she did also seem a bit confused by the situation so maybe someone else would be able to override it. I'll try and book another appointment and see what happens.

She should have fetched someone who could authorise it, the lead clinician on duty.
