Have you had your gas or electric meters changed?

I'm curious to know whether the new electric meter is about the same size as the old one - or smaller. Mine's in a little cupboard in the hall and I don't want to have to build a new cupboard. Also, if you're given a new gas meter (mine's outside), do they provide you with a new cover box? This'd be handy as mine's damaged.

New ones tend to be smaller than old ones, without knowing what you have it's impossible to say for sure. Are you having it swapped for a smart meter, or a pre payment? Or just a meter resert?

The meter box is the responsibility of the homeowner to fix if it's broken I am afraid.

I was told the meter is old now (27yrs) They want to install smart meters

You will have to supply your own box. We had this when moving meters from inside to outside.

If they want to install new meters because of the age of the old ones they always try and force you onto smart meters. What they often don't tell you is that you still have the option to have the exact same new meters installed but without the 'smart' module that communicates with the energy company.

Yep that's a standard meter resert based on the age. Likely to be smaller then, my meter was from 1967 when I moved into my house so replacement, and then my smart meter were lots smaller.

(Fun fact, the meter serial number will tell you how old it is😂)
