Can I get into The Science Museum shop without needing an entry ticket?

There's a gift I want to buy & I want to dash in & out.

You don’t need tickets at all for most of the science museum, only special exhibitions. It is free entry otherwise. You will have to go through security and you may have to queue if it’s busy.

I'm sure you can. I never paid for entry as I wasn't sure how long my dc's would last (not paying to have to leave quickly with a meltdown) and we always went to the gift shop anyway.

Some on-demand slots might be available on the day but you're meant to book a time slot, I believe.

There’s a queue for people with tickets and a queue for those without. The tickets are free.

we went at half term. My mum suggested before we went that we got tickets and rather surprised I went to their website.

They give away free tickets for timed slots. If not all the tickets have gone then you can get tickets on the day.
But if they give out all the tickets for the timed slots then they do not admit anyone else on the day.

There were a LOT of disappointed people outside the science museum when we went, being told, no tickets and no entry today.

But for the shop? The entrance and exit are inside the museum. My guess is that if you approached one of the staff outside and explained what you wanted they would tak eyou through to the shop.

I often go to the shop in the science museum and NHM. I just walk past the queue and tell the security people I’m going to the shop.

I booked a ticket, that way there can be no errors. I just need to nip in and get a xmas present.
