Is there a screenwash shortage?

Can't find the stuff anywhere and I have now run out. I have been looking for 2 weeks and there is none in my area. Time for an amazon delivery? But would they even do that, this close to Christmas?

I got some in my local tesco
Halfords?

PeekAtYou · 21/12/2022 15:35

Not round here.
I found it hard to find de-icer last week but that's sorted now.

ProserpinaProserpina · 21/12/2022 15:35

I got some at a garage on the way to wor yesterday without issue. Although I still haven’t actually gotten around to putting it in.

Nimbostratus100 · 21/12/2022 15:37

I dont know about screenwash, but there seems to just be a general supply chain failure overall. Over and over again, we find we are unable to put our hands on something specific, be it grapefruit juice, brown bread, semi skimmed milk, cornflakes, fairy washing powder, whatever.

Every day there are big gaps on supermarket shelves. But at no point is there a lack of choice of alternatives, so nothing critical - except water in non-water areas- I've heard of that, and I dont think you can get much more critical than that....

There's loads round here.

Our local garage did say they sold out during the freezing weather last week though, I suspect that's what it is.

Checkedtowel · 21/12/2022 15:40

I don't know, but my dad has used a few drops of washing up liquid in water for the last 60 years

Pterrydactyl · 21/12/2022 15:42

I was really struggling to find screen wash last week when it was icy.

But I saw some in our nearest big Tesco yesterday so hopefully the demand is easing a bit this week.

And Amazon are still delivering - we had an Amazon delivery today - so you might find some screenwash on there that’ll turn up before Christmas.

Haruka · 21/12/2022 15:44

Hmm, must be very area-specific. The shelves are empty here in the screenwash isle bits. I have just placed an order through Amazon with Morrison's - given that the actual shelves for this are empty here, I will wait and see.

I got some for halfords, winter one 2 for £14.

SinnerBoy · 21/12/2022 15:45

Whitley Bay Morrison's had a pallet load out, a few days ago.

Haruka · 21/12/2022 15:46

I tried Morrison's, The Range, every petrol station I went into and ASDA and nada. So online it is for now.

Me too, I'm out and can't find any

softswirlingsnow · 21/12/2022 16:05

I use a squirt of Stardrops cleaning liquid instead of screenwash in all but sub zero weather. Works very well and very economical.

Haruka · 21/12/2022 17:34

Oh FFS no screenwash. No substitute available, either.

CottonSock · 21/12/2022 17:38

I tried 4 garages and halfords before getting some in The Range.

WTAFnojustno · 21/12/2022 17:41

I've never used screenwash, just water with a tiny bit of washing up liquid.

I did once buy a used car that came with some tablets for adding to water to make it into screenwash though, maybe try looking for those if you can't use water and washing up liquid?

OlleOskiFelle · 21/12/2022 17:43

I bought some in Scunthorpe Morrisons yesterday

Haruka · 21/12/2022 17:44

I'm Midlands-based...

1001Daffodils · 21/12/2022 17:49

Aldi had some with us. Admittedly we're not in the Midlands but you may have an Aldi or Lidl locally who has a random supply because people don't think "I need screenwash, must nip to Aldi Lidl"

BlackFriday · 21/12/2022 17:50

I've been driving for over 40 years and have never used anything other than washing up liquid.
People PAY for special screen-wash?
Who knew?

Rowthe · 21/12/2022 17:52

I got some from home bargains

SinnerBoy · 21/12/2022 17:53

Yes, commercial screen wash has ethanol, or methanol in it, which does two jobs. It stops it from freezing and it's very good at removing greasy deposits, without leaving any residue. We've had frozen squirters a few times.

FatAgainItsLettuceTime · 21/12/2022 17:53

Tesco have Xmas themed screen wash at the minute, either gingerbread or winter berry.

Pelo22 · 21/12/2022 17:54

I work at a garage and no issues with us getting it

ImmortalRuins · 21/12/2022 17:59

I got mine in B&Q at the weekend
