Why is foie gras considered cruel but not duck/goose paté?

Probably a really stupid question, but I always hear about how cruel it is to eat foie gras because of how ducks and geese are treated but I have never heard that for paté.

Are they made a different way?

foie gras is specifically from geese force fed to enlarge their livers. Duck pate (and goose pate not labelled as foie I assume though I've never seen that) will be from conventionally fed birds.

Because fois gras is made from the liver of birds subjected to gavage (force feeding).

Because they're made completely differently as PP

Go and look up how they treat the geese.

Ahhh got it, thank you!

I wanted to get some pate for Christmas but was a bit worried

It's all cruel.

They basically have a metal funnel that has a grinding arm attached. They shove the funnel down the gooses throat and grind the maize into its stomach. Foie gras is bland. I tried a bit when we holidayed in the dordogne region. I was young and unaware until after how they "fed" the geese.
