I woke up this morning with a sore neck. It's gradually got worse and now I'm in agony. My shoulder/s so painful, I can't turn my head, moving is agony.

I've Googled it and it's suggested frozen shoulder which takes months to heal. I'm I'm so much pain. Any advice please?

Hi OP

I had a frozen shoulder about 30 years ago. Left should and i had just dropped my parents odd at the airport and I could not change the gears.

Went to docs next day he hled my wrist and helped me take it to 9pm, painful and the pain went away from the angle of about 11 o'clock position

Goole frozen shoulder diagnosis as my pain was very different to yours.
I strongly recommend you see gp frozen shoulder or not

I had this a few weeks ago. I woke up with really bad neck pain. If I turned my neck a tiny bit it literally felt like I was being stabbed, couldn't look up or down. Sleep was disturbed, I was in agony. I was advised to use deep heat and ibuprofen but couldn't as Im pregnant. So guessing that would help? What helped for me was hot water bottle and affected area and rest. It did take about a week and a half to heal though. See your GP, if it gets any worse.

Ibuprofen (after food) hot bath or hot water bottle till it kicks in, see a Dr.

Gp. In the meantime, hot bath, hot water bottle and either alternate ibuprofen and paracetamol or something stronger like co codamol will ease the pain.

It could have various causes and may resolve quickly so please don’t get overly anxious.

I hope you have some help/support at home x

Have you googled torticolis?

Cobbydog · 20/12/2022 23:40

Might be torticollis (neck muscle spasm) .. Its agony, I passed out with the pain. Couple of days of codeine and diazepam sorted me out though.

I suffer from this a lot. Always used to keep my head so still as it was too painful to move about. The pain would radiate all the way down my arm to my fingertips, almost like a toothache type pain.

After a few years of many bouts of this I was advised by a Dr in a&e the worst thing you can do is keep still.

I have poor posture (big boobs & working from home without a proper desk space) which now and again would set off muscle issues in my neck/upper back.

Since being told not to keep still I would very slowly stretch my neck regularly and the issue would resolve much, much quicker than before. Also ibuprofen helped a lot.

Hope you feel better soon.

When I had it, the pain in my left shoulder was so paralysing I thought I was having a heart attack :-( . My then GP was also qualified in acupuncture which she did on the NHS; it was absolutely magic. I'd recommend it.
