Why do people on MN always ask this? It seems so patronising!

It's meant to be. It's a passive aggressive way of suggesting "Read your thread back to yourself, OP. You sound about 13. Grow up."

MolliciousIntent · 20/12/2022 15:38

Yes, that's the whole point, it's a slightly less ostentatiously nasty way of saying "you sound like a teenager, grow up".

@MadMadMadamMim lollll my internet cut out and in the time it took my comment to post you'd beaten me to it.

There's something about it I just don't like! (Sadly not very young 😂)

I totally have times where I want to say that to people, even though I'm young myself! Age can play a part in how you approach problems and how you feel about stuff, and I think the people who say that are pretty evenly split between passive-aggressive and well-meaning. Maybe a few more on the passive-aggressive side.

But, even if well-intentioned, it's probably quite hard not to be offended when someone says that to you - feels like they're invalidating your feelings or minimising the problem based on your age.
