Present arrived in obvious packaging

I'm so deflated, purchased husbands Christmas present and it was due to arrive tomorrow when he was out. Text from courier while I was out shopping to say it was about to be delivered today while he was in. Selected safe place but they bloody delivered to the front door and it's in a branded box with the contents plastered all over! So now he knows his big present, so frustrated. He lovessss Christmas and surprises so he's taken it well but I know is so gutted :(

Has this happened to anyone else this year? Make me feel better with your stories!

There's a special place in hell for vendors who send items out is branded boxes. Especially on the run up to Christmas.

Awful right. Didn't think any company would do that this close to Christmas. Thought it'd be a label at most. Plus it's an expensive item so far more prone to being stolen in such packaging!!

Happened to me twice but I haven’t let on to DH so I don’t burst his bubble. Last year it was a soda stream which arrived in a big soda stream box so I put it in the greenhouse and let him find it when I wasn’t looking, acted surprised on Christmas Day. This year it’s a teeth whitening kit, just arrived today so I’ve done the same thing.

Yep. I ordered a coffee machine that came
on a box full of pictures 😏 Thankfully managed to hide it in time

CMOTDibbler · 20/12/2022 16:17

My big present from DH came in a very branded box. Answering the door to the DPD bloke and taking that in did spoil the surprise a bit

CoxixSix · 20/12/2022 16:22

Alexa has stopped telling us all what's in the Amazon packages due for delivery. It ruined somebody's Christmas I read on here.

KatieGalPal · 20/12/2022 16:24

If it was from Amazon you have to select Amazon packaging on some items or they’ll send it in the normal box.

Salamander91 · 20/12/2022 16:44

I hate when this happens. I had a cozy coupe delivered one year which wasn't even in another box just had the label stuck to it. Thankfully the courier realised and delivered it to the side door so the kids wouldn't see.

Andsoforth · 20/12/2022 16:46

I have a lovely dpd delivery driver who has taken the extra minute to warn me if a toy comes in obvious packaging. He’s a Christmas hero.

The companies that go this though are bastards.

You keep posting this question, perhaps looking for fodder for an easy article?

My DD wanted a basketball hoop - ordered and it arrived with a picture of the damn hoop on the box! She’s only 7 and it was on her list from Santa. So, so annoyed!!

bitfit · 20/12/2022 16:51

Yes it happened to me today as well. Had to nip out for half an hour. When I came back DH's present was on the side in the branded packaging. I didn't even know it was out for delivery. It's something that he asked for so he knows that's what he's getting anyway, but still.

Blimey, when are you getting the iron?

ShortColdandGrey · 20/12/2022 17:10

Why do you have 2 threads on this? Yes it is annoying but not the end of the world. I am sure you husband will get over it.

lurkinglittleladybug · 20/12/2022 17:16

Yes this is annoying… I ordered a coffee machine from Amazon as a Christmas present for a relative and it was just delivered in its own box with labels stuck all over it with my address on, I can’t get the stickers off with damaging the box so just scribbled out my address with a sharpie… it’s totally ruined the sleek look of the box. I just don’t know why they do it 🤷🏼‍♀️

icebearforpresident · 20/12/2022 17:22

My local DPD driver is great when this happens, always keeps the item to the side when he rings in case a kid appears at the door and gives me a warning to get it hidden quickly before he hands it over. At this time of year he often has a roll of bin bags to put anything into as well. William from DPD is my favourite delivery driver.

Now that he’s seen it, on Christmas Day give him a Joni Mitchell CD and wait for the reaction
