Postman walking past my house

worstusernameeverx2 · 20/12/2022 13:35

I just watched my postman walk straight past my house, to 2 doors down to deliver my parcel to them. Then come back to my house and deliver a 'we missed you!' Note ? I couldn't grab the keys in time before he disappeared to ask why.
Why would he bother doing this? I get they're under pressure so to save time they might be cheeky and deliver some parcels to the same address on one street, but he was only delivering one parcel/ letter- mine?!

Never met this postman and my house is right on the street- easy to access. I just can't fathom this!

Are you usually out? That seems strange of the postman - and he obviously had parcels/letters for the other house but If he was trying to save time he could have asked you to take in their packages instead? It seems a strange one indeed.

worstusernameeverx2 · 20/12/2022 13:51

I asked the neighbour if he delivered any parcels or letters for them and they said no, just my parcel. I'm a SAHM so usually home, yes very odd. Maybe he made a mistake and walked to the wrong house, then couldn't be bothered to walk back😅

I have brain fog at the minute.... If I was a postie I would be causing confusion left, right and centre! It would be utter chaos. The plus side is I would forget about all the complaints the minute after hearing them!

Maybe he has a crush on the other neighbour? Maybe he has a crush on you but it isn't going anywhere so doesn't want to see you? But yeah - he probably misread the address and couldn't be bothered walking back!

purplecorkheart · 20/12/2022 14:00

I wonder did he misread the number of the parcel. Does your house have a number the door or maybe he is confused about the numbering on the street.

Completely missing the point of your post, but I would be worried about not being able to open your front door quickly. I'm a bit over concerned about fire (compared to other people) but if a fire did happen smoke-inhalation damage occurs very quickly and you need to be able to leave the house instantly by different routes.

I wondered this too.

This is an excellent point.

Postie did this to me but I caught him up and asked why. He said as my car wasn't in the drive, he'd assumed I was out.

ReformedWaywardTeen · 20/12/2022 19:37

I would ring the sorting office and let them know what happened.
We had a new postman who was utterly useless recently, first he delivered a rare record I bought for DH to god knows where, then last week he knocked on my door, handed me a huge stack of mail which I realised none of was for us but about 4 other houses and off he went. When I called him back he shrugged and said "it's delivered now, it's your problem" and walked away.

I've not seen him since so hopefully he was either Christmas temp, or he got the push. I ended up delivering other neighbours post to them so frankly he didn't deserve his pay or job.

Thanks for your concern! The keys were just in the kitchen (the next room), I was just bemused by the situation and didn't think to grab them straight away

Tbh I don't have the time but if it keeps happening I might have to

I guess he just read the address wrong, or read it right & remembered it incorrectly. The stress they're under I wouldn't barely register his mistake and I would be looking for a reason beyond stress!

Poor sod
i think you should complain to royal Mail he deserves to be sacked immediately

Charliehaus · 22/12/2022 16:48

@ReformedWaywardTeen wow imagine being that mean.
I can’t believe you actually rang the office to make a complaint
surely this is a joke?

I'm interested to know why you think it's so mean? If a waiter brought you the wrong food and then told you to take it to the right table, you'd complain then surely?

So you watched him do all this without being able to get out of your house to ask him why

Why?

worstusernameeverx2 · 28/12/2022 09:49

I've got 2 babies in the house so I can't just walk out, I did go to grab the keys when he dropped the note off but he'd gone by the time I could open the door
