If you live in a 4-bedroom semi-detached house ...

... how much do you pay for window cleaning?

I've just paid someone £40, which seems high, but it's SW London where everything is expensive. Previous guy (who unfortunately has moved away) was £25 but it was a second income for him (fire fighter) and he originally quoted in 2019, so I was expecting to pay a bit more for inflation. I plan to shop around before next time, so I'm wondering what is reasonable to expect to pay.

Can't afford it. Clean them ourselves.

ElfDragon · 20/12/2022 13:46

I pay £30 in Surrey for a large detached house. 3x double patio doors, 22 windows (most of them massive) and a patio canopy thing.

morekidsthanhands · 20/12/2022 13:46

£5. North West. I paid more in my old smaller home. He's shocking though haha. Just aims at the upstairs windows with one of those brush things. I don't care about them enough to find someone else and pay more.

£10 in Dorset

I do my own three or four times a year with a telescopic pole that cost £30, it takes 25 minutes. The local chap knocked on the door and quoted £40 if doing it once a month, more for adhoc.

For me it’s not worth spending £80 an hour to save time doing a job that I can readily do myself at no cost.

somethingdifferenttoday · 20/12/2022 13:49

£120 for a 5 bed detached in Oxfordshire so we do it ourselves!

dontmakeitaweproblem · 20/12/2022 13:51

£5 for 7 windows north Tyneside

Kitfish · 20/12/2022 13:51

I was quoted £65 for a 4 bedroomed terraced house in Clapham in 2003. Your price sounds perfectly reasonable to me.

Twopenceworthtoday · 20/12/2022 13:52

8 double windows
Patio doors
Front door

£10

PauliesWalnuts · 20/12/2022 13:58

I'm in a 3 bed detached cottage in the NW - mine cleans the following for £6 a month:
Glass in front door
Living room - bay window
Dining room X 1
Kitchen X 1
Patio door
3 X bedrooms
1 X bathroom

Amazing how the prices can differ so much. He's local and cleans all with a ladder, so no telescopic cleaner things. Can't clean them myself as the house is very small with a small footprint and I don't have storage space for a telescopic cleaner or large set of ladders. He's a bargain and got a £20 Xmas tip for doing an amazing job.

3 bed semi and we pay 20 a month

hashbrownsandwich · 20/12/2022 13:59

£14 for 10 windows

hashbrownsandwich · 20/12/2022 13:59

Brighton area

LadyDanburysHat · 20/12/2022 14:00

I paid £45 for a first clean and £30 after that. We have a sun room with lots of windows too. I am going to cancel them though as it is just too expensive.

ethelredonagoodday · 20/12/2022 14:00

£25 here in York.

ZacharinaQuack · 20/12/2022 14:18

I'm in Scotland, but I think mine is cheap because round here the window cleaners each have their own patch and they just turn up on the day they're in the area and do all the houses they have signed up. So it's not like they're driving out specially to do one house on a specific day. They stick a note through the door when they've done it. It might be worth asking your neighbours if they have anyone regular.

Badnewsoracle · 20/12/2022 14:20

£4.50 for the front 4 windows NW.

Flossflower · 20/12/2022 14:25

70s 4 bedroom detached SE - £15. I expect it to go up in the new year. However, all the houses on my road are the same and he does most of them so not individual travelling to each customer to be factored in the price.

Lindy2 · 20/12/2022 14:35

£25 Surrey/SW London borders. I'd say we have a slightly above average number of windows but not loads. We have some veluxes too that he does with a very long pole.

HogwartsForever11 · 20/12/2022 14:40

£10 for 4 bed-detached in West Yorkshire including french doors at rear

AtomicRitual · 20/12/2022 14:42

We're in the Home Counties (not as expensive as SW London) in a 4 bed detached house with a conservatory and pay £26 for all the windows (but not the conservatory roof), doors and sills.

Most window cleaners we've dealt with seem to start with a high price and you have to barter them down.

So much to the point that our window cleaner never actually remembers how much we pay, because, presumably, he's negotiated a different rate on every house. He just tells us "same as last time". Comes once every 6 weeks or so.

Iwannabeacrocodilehunter · 20/12/2022 15:01

£12

LBOCS2 · 20/12/2022 15:02

Very deep South London (practically Surrey), a tenner a month for just the front ones.

Nottodaty · 20/12/2022 15:07

I live just outside London - end terraced 4 bed £13. 3 largish windows, 5 mid size and patio doors.

Though he only cleans the glass and immediate frames - not the bit around it. If that makes sense.
