Just found out he has died at just 63 years old. Too bad, the voice behind Rat Race, Ghost Town, Tunnel of Love and Thinking of You ☹.

OP posts:

That makes me really sad, I loved his voice.

chevvyroo · 19/12/2022 22:52

So young. Loved The Specials as a kid. Good looking guy and great voice.

Belindabelle · 19/12/2022 22:53

No! How sad.

cariadlet · 19/12/2022 22:56

That's so sad. Far too young.

The OP takes me right back to my teenage years.

3catsandcounting · 19/12/2022 22:58

As a teen of the late 70s/early 80s, this has made me stupidly sad. DH and I saw
The Specials a couple of years ago at Blackpool Winter Gardens. It was an amazing evening of pork pie hats, black
& white T-shirts and a very bouncy dance floor.
We were all (mostly) 50+
I had to laugh at Terry vaping, mid-song. Was a sign of the times.
😢

Oh no

His voice was the sound of my youth

Alwaysworryingoversomething · 19/12/2022 23:01

Oh no that's really sad, sorry to hear it.

Twentyfourlegs · 19/12/2022 23:01

Aw I loved Terry Hall. He was so cool in a quiet, understated I-don’t-like-to-blow-my-own-trumpet kind of way, even though he was incredibly talented.
I’m really sorry to hear that.

ArcaneWireless · 19/12/2022 23:03

Our lips are sealed was perfect.

One of the many gifted people who coloured my youth.

ArseInTheCoOpWindow · 19/12/2022 23:27

Just cool as fuck.

Loved Terry Hall.

alwayscrashinginthesamecar1 · 19/12/2022 23:28

As a massive fan I am gutted by this! RIP Terry.

astarsheis · 19/12/2022 23:30

Too sad. Lying here listening to the specials on spotify

Appalonia · 19/12/2022 23:36

This has really upset me. I was a teenager in Coventry during The Specials' era and they were such an amazing band. I feel like part of my youth has died today. Younger pp may not get just how influential and important they were at the time, a political and racially mixed band at the time of race riots, they really were a force for good. RIP Terry.

middleager · 19/12/2022 23:44

He was a legend.

Hooth · 20/12/2022 00:00

Gutted to hear this, was just wearing my specials t-shirt yesterday. He always did great concerts. Much too soon. Was never a massive fun boy three fan, but tunnel of love was something I play a lot. Will have a listen again tonight.

Costacoffeeplease · 20/12/2022 00:11

I was surprisingly sad to hear this news 😞

Appalonia · 20/12/2022 17:44

Sky Arts are showing a Specials concert tonight at 9pm if anyone's interested.

ArseInTheCoOpWindow · 20/12/2022 18:28

I’m suprised at how sad l am too.

Bowie didn’t really affect me. Joe Strummer really affected me. And this has too.

Appalonia · 20/12/2022 20:48

For those of you who were wondering how he died, as the reports said it was a short illness, it was cancer. I only know this as I know someone who knows him.

LitralViolins · 20/12/2022 21:15

Just watching the Isle of Wight festival gig on Sky Arts. I have loved Terry Hall for years and years, for his music, his voice, his attitude (and, yes, I admit I also had a huge crush on him, he was physically gorgeous as well as having a beautiful soul). Used to see him around Camden a fair bit in the 90s, and was always totally star-struck.

I am genuinely gutted. What a loss.
