Kids football kit help

Ds is going to a football day tomorrow while I'm at work. He's inherited various bits of kit. Really stupid question, but I can't see HOW he wears the football socks inside his boots, they seem really bulky and wide despite being his size, also the ankle bit of the shin pad seems to hinder his boot.

Is it trial and error to get stuff that works together? Also, what do kids generally wear I'm this weather when it's too cold for shorts and t shirt? He'll want to fit in.

Mine wear skins under their kits, like thermals.

Tgank you, he's been given a set of black base layer type top and bottoms. Then kit over that? Shin pads on top, they won't fit under. Sorry, he's only played casually in the summer before, he's very excited to wear all the gear 🤣

Football socks are massive and chunky. You just have to stuff them into the boots! Are they his size???

You can get shin pads without heel/ankle bits - they may suit him better?

Shin pads go under socks.

Skins go under kit.

We've always had to buy boots at least one size bigger than DS would normally wear as they usually run narrow and you have to get socks underneath. DS prefers the shin pads with no straps and uses tape to keep them in place (tape goes over the sock, pads under)

Sorry, none of that probably helps for tomorrow! At a push, he could probably wear normal socks under his boots if his shin pads have straps

Base layer then shin guards then socks, shorts and tshirt over base layer. Hat, gloves, some sort of jumper/tracky top and a water proof jacket might be handy this time of year (although mine usually take it off). Hope he has a great time.

Shin pads on first (after underwear of course!)
Socks on, they will be thick. Generally you get a half size up in boots to accommodate the socks, but should be fine.
Base layer on
Shorts/top on
Boots on

In the cold you might give him some gloves snd woolly hat, light waterproof jacket

Football ready 😀

Yes that's right that the dicks are ridiculously large, you just have to kind of stuff them in the boots and make it work.

Underwear, then base layer (like leggings and tight long sleeve top) then football kit (shorts & t-shirt) Shin pads over the 'leggings' then socks over the top. Socks often pulled up high over the knee like the footballers do. Then often gloves & woolly hat, and potentially something like a half zip long sleeve top.

Hope he has a lovely time!

TokyoSushi · 19/12/2022 21:58

Oh my!! 😳😳😳 SOCKS are ridiculously large!!!!!! 🤣🤣

Bemyclementine · 19/12/2022 22:06

@TokyoSushi you're clearly more familiar with football kit than I. 🤣

Socks are his size, fit the length of his foot but are so wide and roomy even for his wide feet. Normal socks tomorrow I think as his boots fit with normal socks.

I can see I might need to go shopping!

🤣🤣🤣 @TokyoSushi

Is it a team? If so they will more than likely provide a kit
Tshirt, shorts and Socks
You will have to provide ‘skins’ Shinpads and boots

lennolin · 20/12/2022 03:38

It will work out. Just encourage him to go and have the best time playing with his team. He will love it

Bemyclementine · 20/12/2022 07:29

Thanks all. He's very excited!

Not a team, its a holiday activity day . He has all the kit but it just doesn't seem to work together and he wants to look the part bless him..

Some of the kids in our under 7s team had to cut off the feet of the socks and wear them like leg warmers.

FASDE1517 · 20/12/2022 08:52

You can also cut the straps off the shin pads and just tuck them into the socks.

Bemyclementine · 20/12/2022 16:30

The shin pads are very oddly sized, I think I will cut the velcro calf strap off as its too tight. Good idea to cut the feet off the socks too, I think I'll do that!
