Just seen a recipe for egg nog cheesecake that looks really good.

Do you mean Advocaat

BarrelOfOtters · 19/12/2022 16:27

Is it the same thing? They are always knocking back egg nog in Amercan films and I assumed it was an American thing.

I've never seen it on sale here. Advocaat is not the same thing. It's a fresh dairy product and in north America you find cartons of it in the chiller cabinets in the supermarket. You can make it from scratch from memory you need a lot of eggs and it requires lots of whipping 🙂

Never seen it on sale here. The only person I know who has it makes it from fresh.

Horizons83 · 19/12/2022 16:34

You can’t buy it here routinely, believe me I have tried. I found it in a random corner shop in Tottenham last August..

However it’s not too tricky to make. But you can also buy egg nog flavouring on Amazon which may work for the purposes of a cheesecake.

MenaiMna · 19/12/2022 16:35

American food shops and amazon do it. There are a couple of brands "rose hall" or borden" in uht/tetra packs.
Never as nice as fresh & about £10+/ litre

This may serve your purpose:

www.amazon.co.uk/Rose-Hall-Luxurious-Eggnog-1L/dp/B09MFN7YLN/ref=mp_s_a_1_1?crid=1U6GPTD00TJVA&keywords=egg+nog&qid=1671467674&sprefix=egg+nog+%2Caps%2C134&sr=8-1

Hopefully the link works. Not like proper egg nog which is fresh, but may work in a cake.

I used this recipe to make my own a couple of years ago

mindutopia · 19/12/2022 16:39

I’m American and I’ve never seen it for sale here. It’s relatively easy to make though, and I’m sure you could make a cheesecake with the same spices (usually cloves, cinnamon and nutmeg).

Floydthebarber · 19/12/2022 16:41

I thought it was a Christmasy spiced custard? With alcohol? It has always looked like something I'd like to drink anyway.

I can recommend the 'George Washington recipe' which is widely available online.

HollyBollyBooBoo · 19/12/2022 16:49

Loads of recipes on line, very easy.

Madickenxx · 19/12/2022 16:49

My lazy recipe is to buy a pot of fresh custard (like the Sainsury's taste the difference custard) and shake 1 part brandy to 2 parts (chilled) custard). Top with whipped cream and grated nutmeg or cinnamon. I have no idea whether it tastes like the real thing but it works for me.

Starlitexpress · 19/12/2022 17:05

Some shops do stock it, especially ones with "American" sections, seen it in my local shop!
