Can I use an air fryer oven to make popcorn?

I purchased a grill basket for my HYSapientia air fryer last week and I want to use it to make popcorn. I've done it in the past with a pan, but never tried it in the oven. Has anyone made popcorn in an air fryer oven?

I would imagine it would pop up and get stuck in the fan?

They say whatever you cook in a normal oven you can cook in an air fryer bar a few other things e.g. cheese toastie. So if you can't make popcorn in a normal oven then no. The heating element in an air fryer will catch fire. Stick to a pan or microwave popcorn.

Yes, it would fly all over the place and into the fan. You might be able to contain it in something.

I do poppadoms in the air fryer. They come out really well but I have to make a "cage" for them using a metal rack from my microwave or they go straight up into the fan.

Cheese toasties are one of my favourite uses for the air fryer. Just about to make one for my late breakfast.

You can make a cheese toasty in an airfryer

personally I would think it's easier to make popcorn in a pan/ microwave but if the air fryer is your only option and it's a popcorn emergency then you lift out the grid base of the airfryer, put the corn and a little oil directly into the airfryer drawer and then loosely place the grid base back on top as high up in the drawer as you can make it sit. That will stop the popped corn flying up into the elements.

I think my grill basket will keep them from flying all over the oven.😂

Thanks for your advice. I will try it.

@miranda213 what's so funny? A grill basket could be anything - you haven't explained the design. I assume from your hilarity that it has some kind of lid or cover. So fine, try it. Still think it's a bad idea!
