What was your happiest year and why?

Mine (so far!) was 2015. I had my first baby, happily married and everyone I loved was alive and doing well. We went on a couple of nice UK holidays with good weather. I spent my days seeing friends and getting to know my son and I was pretty healthy and just generally really really happy!

It all went a bit wrong in 2016 as my dad was diagnosed with a terminal illness and died shortly afterwards and I loved him to pieces. There have been happy years since and even this year, despite all the hardships in the world, has been a fairly happy one personally but in my mind nothing quite compares with 2015.

So what was your best year and why?

I'm lucky to have a few but maybe 2015 for me too! DH and I had an amazing much anticipated holiday of a lifetime, and got back to find I was pregnant with my first baby. Spent the rest of that year excited and planning for it. 2022 has been my worst. Hopeful for a better 2023!

  1. Went travelling, started a new job with an actual benefits package that paid a reasonable salary and it was a new decade and millennium full of promise.

Oh, and I was a size 10 on top and 12 on the bottom.

Fond memories.

I’ve had many, many happy years. My happiest was the year I met my husband. 2006.

romany4 · 19/12/2022 10:33

I married my DH after 6 years together. We had a 2 year old DS and I fell pregnant with DS2 in the Autumn.
Perfect year. Complete happiness

2022 has been an awful year. Can't wait for it to be over and start 2023

NoelNoNoel · 19/12/2022 10:39

The first half of 2019 was good, I had an amazing 50th, went on some fab holidays, kids were happy at uni. Life was good.

2013 for me.

My dad died, marriage ended and we finally cut contact with my extreme toxic mother between May and October 2012 and 2013 felt like true freedom. I walked on air for the whole year.

Best year of my life!

lynthesearesexpeople · 19/12/2022 11:16

I’ve honestly never had one. Every year has been filled with some sort of awful stress or problem, since childhood which was just awful.

I keep getting told it can’t last forever and I will get a break soon. I’m 43 and still waiting. I’m waiting on an appointment in the new year to tell me if/when I will lose my sight.

2021, it was my happiest ever first 10 months of a year (it then went to hell in a handcart). We got married in May 21 and had a weekend away for my birthday in August which was just lovely, then one of my fosterlings, who were told wouldn't walk or talk, did both of those things and we were a very happy family for a while.

Maskedpotato · 19/12/2022 11:30

Any of the late 90s. Met my husband and got married in that time period. All of our families were alive and well and there seemed generally hope for the future.

EncroachingLoaf · 19/12/2022 11:35

2012 was great, living it up with my now ex, trips of a lifetime to various places, young and free without a care in the world. 2018 was pretty lovely too, second DC was born and we settled into enjoying family life with two kids having just bought a house. I remember feeling really secure and happy then.

2022 has been the absolute worst and has very nearly broken me, closely followed by 2021.

Clawdy · 19/12/2022 11:59

The year after our first son was born. We were in our first house, with nice neighbours, he was a lovely sunny baby, and all our parents were still alive.

Riverpebble · 19/12/2022 12:02

I'm not sure that I have a happiest year as they have all had the inevitable challenges that is life but they also have some best moments.

The best moment was a fantastic holiday that we all had together.

JulieMarooley · 19/12/2022 12:19

The year of my second maternity leave. An easy baby compared to the first, and I just felt so joyful every day with my baby and toddler.

Brandybucks · 19/12/2022 12:21

@lynthesearesexpeople Im sorry you haven’t had a good year yet, that must be really hard! I really hope you get good news about your sight and that 2023 is a much better year than you expect x

I’ve had numerous happy years and am still having them but 1980 probably stands out as the year I got my first horse .

Turquoisesea · 19/12/2022 12:26

1994 - I went backpacking around Australia for a year with my best friend, no responsibility just fun for the whole year, it was great.

JamSandle · 19/12/2022 12:31

2013 and 2014 were mostly wonderful years.

2018 was too.

Theyre the ones that stick out to me!
