Strep A - how long to take antibiotics?

My son was diagnosed on Friday with Strep A. He's fine and was given antibiotics. He hates the doctor so it was hard to hear over the screaming. I thought she said antibiotics for 10 days, but I was given a prescription for 5 days (4 times a day) when I went to the pharmacy. He has enough to last a few days and I'll check with the doctor tomorrow. Just wondering if doctors would usually offer a 5 or 10 day course?

My nephew was given antibiotics for 5 days. He felt better after a couple of days but still looked awful. Once the 5 days were up he was back to feeling unwell and sadly took a turn for the worse and now has another course for 10 days. I’d phone the doctor tomorrow to clarify the timescale and if you feel your dc isn’t better towards the 4th day then ask for another prescription to be on the safe side.

@Hiddenvoice thanks for the reply. He's perked up already so I think 5 days should be enough but I'll definitely double check with the doctor. I worry with antibiotics sometimes as it's hey can kill the good bacteria and make things worse if the course is too short. Hope your little nephew is feeling better now!
