The snowman being on (every year?) On Christmas eve.
Cbbc having a kids drama. The one I remember most was called something along the lines of the best shop in the world and was about a family living in a department store.
Blue Peter doing a musical episode. I remember Matt Baker wearing a fat suit and singing a parody of beat it called eat it.

@Charlavail I am definitely older than you so Willie Wonka, Chitty Chitty Bangbang, The Wizard of Oz, etc. for me

ThreeKneeRepeater · 18/12/2022 18:23

Blue Peter. Lighting the candles on the Advent Crown in the programmes leading up to Christmas, then children processing in to sing carols round the tree with the presenters.

PlaitBilledDuckyPuss · 18/12/2022 18:25

I remember the 'Watch' nativity episode, I think it was shown every year during the late 70s and early 80s.

The Blue Peter health and safety nightmare 'Advent Crown' being lit.

The Two Ronnies' 'Winter Wonderland' Christmas Special - again, much repeated in the 80s.

Singing along to the Woolies Christmas Advert - 'have a cracking Christmas'

Christmas TOTP in the 80s - hoping my favourites would be on, and finding out the Christmas Number One.

It was so exciting Grin

Luana1 · 18/12/2022 18:27

The Box of Delights, and BBC Ghost Stories for Christmas.

TheShellBeach · 18/12/2022 18:30

Morecambe and fucking Wise. They were shit then and they still are, when I accidentally watch them.

Yes, aren't they just?

My DH unaccountably finds them funny; I just cringe at them.

Moxbeal · 18/12/2022 18:38

Looking forward to REAL Christmas specials of comedy's! Only Fools and Horses, Absolutely Fabulous, One Foot in the Grave etc where an extended Christmas special episode when the programme is usually 30 minutes was great!

Moxbeal · 18/12/2022 18:40

Also they used to do a film premiere on TV. Usually some massive blockbuster which came out in the last couple of years on TV for the first time. In those days videos were expensive so you'd record it.

LT2 · 18/12/2022 18:54

The animated 'Father Christmas' - the grumpy one. I always remember watching this. 'Another bloomin christmas!'

Purplepurse · 18/12/2022 19:02

The excitement of which film it would be. Before the days when you could video it, so you had to watch it in the moment. Not always easy on Christmas day.
Many Poppins and Sound of Music.

TheDouglasChater · 18/12/2022 19:26

The Crystal Maze special, usually shown on Christmas Eve.

Spenn · 18/12/2022 19:38

The blue Peter advent crown
TOTP on christmas day

I don't remember any Christmas adverts as we weren't allowed to watch ITV 😂

Parents always watched some shite with Noel Edmonds in the morning. Luckily I was older then so cracked open the Buck's Fizz.

We did watch the Worlds Strongest Man and various unfunny Christmas specials (only on BBC) and the film premiere Christmas Day afternoon

PeacockMansion · 18/12/2022 20:21

BBC The Lion the Witch and the Wardrobe... So brilliant and nostalgic

Goldenboysmum · 18/12/2022 20:24

The Wizard of Oz and The Great Escape (which I love)

Also Morecombe and Wise, still dislike them!

Goldenboysmum · 18/12/2022 20:25

Oh and the Woolworths advert which was brilliant!

BMW6 · 18/12/2022 21:02

I'm 65. The one I remember was a stop animation about one of Santa's elves who really wanted to be a dentist.
Rudolph was involved and the elf ended up taking out the painful tooth from the Abominable Snowman.
Burl Ives narrated as the snowman

Wish they'd show it again

Spenn · 18/12/2022 22:42

This one ? @bmw6

ShoveAHollySprigUpYourBum · 18/12/2022 22:49

For a few years in the late 80s/early 90s Channel 4 would show the 1985 mini series of Anne of Green Gables. My absolute fave. We only had one TV and no video recorder, but my dad would always overrule my brothers and let me watch this, even if they were pleading to watch Star Wars or whatever it was on another channel.

it was called the greatest store in the world... I loved that movie... I have it on vhs, i taped it at the time 😊
every Christmas I think about that movie.

Positivelypatient · 18/12/2022 22:58

The Amazing Mr Blunden, was always on in the 80s in the day when we'd broken up from school. I think they remade it not so long ago but i found the original on YouTube too.

Logicalreasoning · 18/12/2022 22:59

For me it was the nightmare before Christmas... I remember when it first came on Tv and I’ve watched it every Christmas Eve since without fail.
I remember watching blue Peter in the run up,
I loved watching the eastenders Christmas episodes.
all of the Christmas comedy specials.
chitty chitty bang bang, Willy wonka, bedknobs and broomsticks, Mary poppins, wizard of oz, sound of music, ET all being on over Christmas. Now I can only ever watch them around Christmas time.
my fave comedy Christmas special is goodness gracious me, they had a few and I al2ays watch whichever one is repeated, There’s one on this Wednesday.. can’t wait despite seeing them so many times.

HarrietSchulenberg · 18/12/2022 23:02

Blue Peter advent crown
Box of Delights
I can just about remember Bing Crosby and David Bowie singing Little Drummer Boy on something around Christmas in 1977.
Morecambe and Wise Christmas Specials, which I thought were boring at the time but I find hilarious now.

Thecat19342 · 18/12/2022 23:19

Black beauty - I remember circling the what's on TV guide on every year and watching it in my grans living room. My favourite one is the version where beauty narrates the story. :)
