How to drink sloe gin

I've been given a bottle of sloe gin.
Other than knocking it back neat, what are your preferred ways to drink it?

With prosecco or aromatic tonic water

IScreamMonday · 18/12/2022 08:29

Only like it neat but have seen it mixed with prosecco for a Christmas drink

Whiskeypowers · 18/12/2022 08:30

try it with lemon / orange tonic water and lots of ice I quite like that.
or a fruity tonic water such as rhubarb?

slices of orange or raspberries are quite nice with it if you wanted a garnish

Neat as an aperitif.

Sounds ace, thank you 🙂

Neat from a hip flask on a cold day

Osprey67 · 18/12/2022 08:46

Bitter lemon. I was dubious at first, but it tastes lovely.

Ringmaster27 · 18/12/2022 08:48

With Prosecco.
I normally won’t touch Prosecco as it’s way too dry for my taste, but with a bit of sloe gin in it? Beautiful 🙌🏻

hennaoj · 18/12/2022 19:39

With fevertree gold tonic but strong on the gin, more than a double.

SixCharactersinSearchofanAuthor · 18/12/2022 19:46

Lemonade

Or ginger ale - sounds odd but really makes a nice zing.

NeverDropYourMooncup · 18/12/2022 19:48

Bitter lemon.

Ginger beer or hot apple juice. Wishing I had made some this year now.

Purpleavocado · 18/12/2022 19:56

I've been having it with prosecco today, very nice!

With prosecco!
or decent tonic, ice and loads of orange. You could even throw in some orange gin if you want something strong! Yum!

emma123456 · 18/12/2022 20:06

Bitter lemon and lots of ice. Lush

Underroad · 18/12/2022 20:19

With Prosecco is my favourite because it makes it taste extra Christmassy, but I also like it with that Fevertree aromatic tonic water, with bitter lemon, with ginger ale, or with lemonade. It depends upon how sweet you like your drinks - lemonade is best for fans of sweeter drinks, followed my ginger ale, but bitter lemon and tonic water are better for lovers of drier drinks.

Sloe gin French 75 = dangerous. Delicious but dangerous.

Shake gin, lemon juice and sugar syrup with ice (to taste, I think it's normally 2:1:1 when you use straight gin but sloe gin is sweeter and sweetness varies so you need to adjust.

Add a good slug to the bottom of a champagne flute (maybe 1/3 of the flute?) and top up with prosecco/sparkling wine of choice).

cul · 18/12/2022 20:41

Slowly.

wendywoopywoo222 · 18/12/2022 20:41

I like it with lemonade but it's also nice with cream soda as I found out on a camping trip when I ran out of lemonade.

MotherWol · 18/12/2022 20:42

It’s nice in a Negroni - normally I’d do equal parts Campari/red vermouth/gin, but as sloe gin is sweeter I’d scale back the Campari or do half sloe, half regular gin.

Topped up with boiling water.

Like wine. But then that’s me… I do like it a lot though.

twinkletoesimnot · 18/12/2022 21:14

With champagne or Prosecco! 😋

Elderberry gin is really good for colds.
