What's the fastest way to get over this awful virus throat infection?

Day one was a weird crushing headache I couldn't understand. Day 2 was tonsils the size of footballs that felt like knives if you tried to swallow, along with endless coughing that causes unexpected sudden reflux. It's very hard to swallow food so I do so carefully. That was week one. There's been no change and now it's moved into my ears. I've got loud tinnitus and a stuffed feeling in my ears. It feels like it's never going to end. I had night sweats the first 3 nights. I've used most of a bottle of Covonia and loads of paracetamol. Anything else I can do to get better faster? No chance of seeing a doctor, I couldn't get past being caller 200+ in the queue on the phone.

Rest

Ibuprofen if they’re inflamed. I had strep throat recently and he’s thing for me was lemsip. I definitely noticed when it wore off! Antibiotics worked quick. Understand you think yours is viral though.

If its been over a week I'd be phoning 111 to see a doctor at out of hours but be prepared for a long wait. Last time I had tonsillitis I tried everything you can buy over the counter but only antibiotics shifted it in the end. Do your tonsils have white patches on them?

Ibuprofen, lozenges, warm drinks and ice lollies.

No white patches on my tonsils but they're massive. Swallowing is quite difficult and super painful.

When I had tonsillitis a few weeks ago, ibuprofen made me far more comfy than paracetamol.

Antibiotics are only useful if its a bacterial infection or if a viral infection leads to a bacterial infection

I have never had a test from a GP to say whether it was or wasnt, I was given or not given antibiotics depending on whether the GP simply thought it was or wasnt

I'm taking the day nurse capsules. Definitely seem to help.

My cold/cough/throat virus cure. You need a load of vitamin C and D as well as medication now. This has worked for many people I know and me, I made it for myself one day when I had flu as medicines were not working, just felt I needed a healthy boost instead. If you have this stuff in great and if not hopefully someone will get it for you. Get well soon.
Half cup boiled water, half cup lucozade, one 2 red, yellow or orange peppers (full of vitamin C), one orange, three tablespoons of honey, handful of washed raw spinach, handful of blueberries, one paracetamol, one aspirin. Whizz together in a blender. Tiny sips if it's hard to swallow. Might not work for you but it's better for you than a lempsip, cough syrups etc...in my opinion 😌

Sudafed

i think I have the same thing as you right now, op. Difflam antiseptic spray has helped numb the sore throat, plus paracetamol interspersed with ibuprofen if I still feel bad.

CaramelizedNuts · 17/12/2022 19:01

My version of this just turned into covid.

Bemyclementine · 17/12/2022 19:40

I'm suffering with this too. Ds1 had strep A and scarlet fever last week. I've got a sore throat, have had a crappy headache for a couple of days. Felt shocking this morning. Puffy eyes. Cough.

Oh my goodness that is awful. I am very lucky that my GP practice doesn't tend to have these issues but appreciate its unusual. For the tonsils I'd suggest difflam throat spray or tyrozets. And alternate paracetamol and ibuprofen. I really hope you feel better soon.

I’ve got something like this and today I’ve woken up with a spotty rash all over my stomach and chest.
my throat is now raw but no white spots. I’m worried about DS he’s only two nearly three but he actually had whatever this is before we did and gave it to us.

A tip I saw on TikTok this week was to ‘eat’ raw garlic (there’s a few options for how to do this depending on your preference) I’ve chopped a clove into chunks and then taken that chunk like a pill with water but you can chew it, crush it and mix with oil and eat on toast/bread, add to warm water etc. I feel (based on everyone else in my house) that my symptoms are lessoning more quickly than if I hadn’t tried it. Apparently garlic (amongst other natural ingredients) is a great natural antibiotic, at this point I feel anything is worth a try, I’m done with feeling Ill!
