Super plus tampons

Observation, and wondering if anyone else had noticed similar.

Supermarkets have seemed to have discontinued own brand super plus tampons. Which annoys me as I have to pay premium prices for tampons as I have a heavy flow. Where have they gone?! Is anywhere still doing them?

Would use a cup, and have tried, but I have such a high cervix that the time/energy/terror off fishing it out was stressful!

A cup might be worth having another go with as it doesn't cover the cervix,it should sit really low in the vagina.

Same with the purple ones, the very tiny ones. They are almost impossible to find.

Look for a menstrual cup with a long stem…

There are so many different designs out there, I’m sure some will be made for a high cervix… have you tried looking at the putacupinit website to see what they recommend for high cervix?

lurkinglittleladybug · 17/12/2022 07:40

Here’s a quiz you can do to recommend a good cup:

Thanks for the cup recommendations. The cup I've got was post-quiz! It's just not for me I'm afraid (stressful time crouching in shower getting the thing out, leaking, dumping etc, did persevere for 3 cycles, followed the YouTube videos- I promise I did try and get on with it!).

My post was really about where/why the super plus tampons have gone... is it another example of items being deliberately phased out so that consumers have to buy the more expensive alternatives? Or am I missing a supermarket who still supplies them?

MN-ing on and off while procrastinating doing an Asda online shop.
I’ve just checked and can see them on asda, both applicator and non applicator on super plus.

Beckyboo123 · 17/12/2022 07:52

Hi OP I get the heavy flow ones for 2-3 days of my period and I get mine from Asda but they have gone up in price recently from about 80p to £1.20 which is annoying.

Twizbe · 17/12/2022 07:55

I've not noticed the own brand, I have noticed though that Always have some even bigger pads available now.

Was very useful pre surgery for me as their size 5s with a super plus tampon would give me some protection.

RainbowCat26 · 17/12/2022 08:03

I get super plus non applicator for my heaviest day and I get them from Asda. I hope they don’t discontinue them, I’ve finally found a system that I like (including 3 different sizes of tampons which DH always looks bemused at when I get them all out!)

Blowyourowntrumpet · 17/12/2022 08:05

I got some own brand ones from Superdrug last week

lurkinglittleladybug · 17/12/2022 08:12

Have you tried the reusable sponges?

Haven’t tried them but know they exist, otherwise it might just be a matter of taking the hit and paying for the expensive branded tampons.

Have you tried period pants / or cloth pads?

sunlovingcriminal · 17/12/2022 08:32

Brilliant. Maybe it's just the size of the stores near me, but my local Morrisons, sainsbos and Tescos = nada. Sure they used to... 🧐

There is a Superdrug nearby so can try them. Asda, I historically did an online shop there, so could revert back if they've got the right tampons!

I just object to paying over the odds for period products. But can't go down an absorbency as my flow is quite tsunami like (always has been, nothing new... however maybe now I'm in my 40s it'll start to ease up?!)

Aldi do a super plus. I use them all the time. Great price too.

sunlovingcriminal · 17/12/2022 10:53

I'll check out Aldi when I can- Lidl near me didnt. Maybe no one in my local towns has a heavy flow?!!!

mincepiepie · 17/12/2022 10:58

Aldi have them but I agree the availability is on and off. They are 69p a box.

Morrisons I sometimes get them they are two boxes for £2. Again inconsistent availability.

Surely they all come from the same factory with different packaging!?

gogohmm · 17/12/2022 11:03

The big Asda (as opposed to the nearer mid sized branch) had them 3 weeks ago
