Poor DP has ended up with an inguinal hernia. He was examined by a surgeon on Thursday who confirmed it, then was discharged and told to wait for an appointment to operate via letter, so obviously it’ll be a while. The problem is, he’s in quite a bit of pain. I’ve had a quick google and I can’t find anything to help him. We know he can take paracetamol but he doesn’t really want to for a prolonged period… does anyone have any suggestions?!

There’s not much you can get over the counter that will be more effective than paracetamol. Can he not have a chat with a doctor to see what they recommend? I’d just stick with paracetamol while waiting for an appointment to discuss it, it’s more effective than most people give it credit for.

My husband developed exactly the same type a year ago. Very swollen and painful. Drugs didn't really give any relief.
Went on waiting list and told it could be 2 yr wait but I'm agony. Affected his work and sporting activities.
Went private in the end which is not what we wanted but he couldn't cope any longer.
Only thing that have slight relief was ice packs in summer and heat packs in winter.

DH had a hernia op a few months ago. He was diagnosed the year before but we postponed op a couple of times. It wasn't terribly painful.
