Heating and meter readings

Menopausecankissmyass · 15/12/2022 19:57

With the weather being so cold I decided to keep my heating on 17 rather than switching on for an hour in morning and evening to keep the house warm.
Don't have a smart meter so submitted meter readings daily to keep a check on usage/cost. This has been since last Thursday and not one meter reading has been accepted (for want of a better word). Usually I submit readings weekly on a Thursday.

The one on Friday was accepted and amount of credit dropped by £8.50, since then balance has stayed the same despite putting in a reading everyday.
I'm with Octopus and even though I know my usage I'm afraid I'm not the best at working out cost
Anyone shed any light where I'm going wrong or why balance hasn't changed.
Tried ringing Octopus a few times but not been able to get through yet
Thanks

Do you not have the little monitor you can track your daily usage on?

dementedpixie · 15/12/2022 20:38

They arent really set up for daily readings if its not a smart meter

If its gas you're talking about then multiply the difference in the 2 readings by 11.2 to give a rough kwh value (if its in m³). Then Multiply that figure by your price per kwh to get the amount you've spent

@birdsandthewasps i don't - we're not able to have a smart meter with the old style meters we have. They need to be changed, so waiting on Western Power to do that as the boards they are in are asbestos (very old house)

If you look at your balance history, it'll likely show you the amount as a pending transaction that they'll check before taking it off your balance.

@NewBootsAndRanty looked on there, nothing at all. No thing's changed since last week

It never shows on my app - only on the website version (if that makes any difference).

All I can suggest is keep trying with phoning them - @dementedpixie s recommendation for working the usage out is spot on.

Your balance will only update when your billed. Octopus systems are not set up to bill you daily. Why on earth are you submitting reading so frequently?

Because I don't have a smart meter and I'm trying not to let the cost run away with me

Your last bill will show the right formula for converting your meter reading to kwh.

What were the last 2 readings?
Remember the answer you get will be in pence and you divide by 100 to get a price in £s
