DD(6) Blood In Urine - No Infection - Anyone had this?

DD(6) was complaining of stomach pain over the weekend so we took her to the doctor on Monday where he dipped her urine and found blood and protein so prescribed 3 days worth of antibiotics.

The surgery have just called to say that the test results are back for the urine sample and there is no infection so can they please have another sample next week to dip again. This has really worried me as why would there be blood and pain if no infection?

DD meanwhile has said her tummy feels better (just a little sore now compared to big sore at the weekend). She has also been suffering with a heavy cold and viral tonsilitis although the tummy pain started before those symptoms.

Has anyone else had similar? I don't want to fall down the Dr. Google rabbit hole.

I always have a trace of blood in my urine, been mentioned many times over the years, when I changed GP, she insisted on investigation, had cystoscopy (camera in bladder) to check for any sinister cause. All was well. Urologist said for some reason my kidneys leak a few blood cells. Just the way I am. Try not to worry. I hope your DD is better soon.

The urine dipstick and culture tests done by the nhs are notoriously unreliable and produced false negatives. They even state this on the nhs website. If she had symptoms of a uti and antibiotics improved these symptoms even with a negative urine result she likely had a uti.

Also I note you say she still has some pain. Often 3 days of antibiotics is not enough to clear an infection. If symptoms come back push for a longer course. You don't want it to become embedded.

Thanks, i didn't know the tests were unreliable. It's hard not to worry but I suppose not much else I can do at this point.

I pretty much always have traces of blood in my urine. I've had blood tests, an USS of my kidneys and a cystoscopy (camera into the bladder) and everything is fine, it's just the way I am, it's highly likely to be nothing or a reaction to her recent illness
