Can I just have a rant

I have an elderly cat. He is 17. I love him. I just need to get that across before I go fully into the slagging off of a much loved pet.
He enters the house through the catflap and miaows like he has been shot at any time of day including at 2am He is a Siamese so the miaow sounds like a baby crying
He leaves the house and still miaows
He sits on the unit top in the kitchen and hits me as I walk past
I feed him and he stops for a while and then he does it again
He pisses on the curtains
He pissed in the dog's toybox which is in the same room as the cat tray. I caught him mid piss and he carried on. I had to wash all the toys and throw the toybox out
He pisses on the bath mat and sometimes shits
He gets in the bath and talks to the tap (it drips and he drinks it)
He gets the best of food and attention. He is loved and stroked but everywhere I go in the house I can smell his piss.
Tonight was the last straw. I left the living room to do something and he fucking ate my mince pie
Thanks

A Christmas/fruit mince pie?
Raisins are incredibly toxic to cats - you should give the vet a call.

AndyWarholsPiehole · 13/12/2022 22:07

Like pp said, if it's an Xmas mince pie then you must contact a vet asap.

LBFseBrom · 13/12/2022 22:09

The trials of having an elderly cat. I have been through the same with mine. It is difficult when they get old but it won't last forever. I will not have another cat; I loved and cared for the ones I had, however I am elderly now and do not want any more responsibility.

Apart from the mince pie ìssue (vet advice needed) I will say one thing about the noise - you will miss it when it's gone. Been there, done that one.

The piss smell? I can't help with that - is he neutered? Is there a new kid on the block that is making him territorial? I do sympathise and 100% allow you to rant on here about it.

Beachbabe1 · 13/12/2022 22:13

My mums 2 cats are 19 and keep pooing in the house. One cat just wonders around the kitchen most of the time. It's a shame but they are very old in cat years. She is wondering if it's best to have them put to sleep.

Dulcetto · 13/12/2022 22:14

Sounds hard work. Was the cat always like this or is it just old age?

NewBootsAndRanty · 13/12/2022 22:15

@ChangedmynameagainforChristmas seriously, please do seek urgent vet advice re the mince pie.

Dulcetto · 13/12/2022 22:22

Don’t have a cat but had no idea raisins are toxic to them. Wonder what’s in them that causes that.

NewBootsAndRanty · 13/12/2022 22:25

They can cause kidney failure in dogs as well.
Grapes, sultanas, currants and raisins are all toxic, and just one can be harmful.

ItsMeHiImTheProblem · 13/12/2022 22:28

Aww bless him. I hope the mince pie doesn't make him ill, I would also speak to a vet about it.

I have two Siamese, well, one is a Sudanese crossed with Tonkinese (very outing 😬 ), they're only 7 and 11 months and they can be extremely loud! The older one caught his claw in something last week and you'd think he was being murdered! But I've had a Siamese before, and after he was put down I missed his voice so much.

ChangedmynameagainforChristmas · 14/12/2022 11:30

He ate the pastry is what I meant :)

There are two of them in this house -Siamese. One is like a little lap cat who sleeps on my bed -actually gets under the covers at night and then there is the boy cat who behaves like a monster. Both of them are 17. Like another poster said I love them so much but when they are gone I won't be getting another cat. And Siamese are so demanding !
I'm going to try an upload a photo of boy cat sleeping in the dog bed with my two pugs but I am not very techy

I said I wouldn't get another Siamese when my last one died and here I am with two eighteen months later 😂

I am apparently insane! Funnily enough, the Siamese cross is the worst, he climbs curtains, doors, walls ... He's also the loudest! I've put so many things away since getting them, because they just knock everything on the floor.

I got the Christmas decs out this afternoon, they've pulled most of them down already, but I only put up things that won't break 😌

Can I just have a rant

Thanks for the mince pie update, I was really worried Blush

my fluffy bundle is driving me round the bend. I misplaced her favourite cat toy the other day and she's been wailing for it.

I know the feeling! I had to throw away one of their favourite toys because it was falling apart and they are not happy!

abblie · 14/12/2022 19:17

I'm sorry but I had to giggle at the mince pie 🤣 has he always pissed in house or is this just new if new with his age he may in incompetent my dog is going through it at the minute and vet put it down to old age x

NeverDropYourMooncup · 14/12/2022 19:27

They'll have ruined you for 'normal' cats.

I just can't get along so well with the non talkers. They make me feel like I'm a mad catwoman when they gawp at me silently for talking to them.

Just as well my two realised the importance of learning the language of the stupid bald chimps that open their tins; one's aggressively purring at me whilst I type this with the two fingers I have managed to get from underneath his full winter heft where he decided that it's cold enough to warrant hurling himself at me whether I like it or not.

The least Wee Furry Shites can do is give me some conversation in exchange for the suffering they inflict upon me.

Once you have gone Siamese you can't go back! We lost our two earlier this year and we really longed to have the noise and craziness back into our lives. We have just got a pair of blue point kittens! They are currently in the process of destroying my Christmas tree and they meow all the time! Bliss! Grin
