I expect this thread may have been done before, but anyway, just for fun -

Words that sound like they could be girls names - but are most definitely not.

Obviously, the classics Veruca and Chlamydia.

IbizaToTheNorfolkBroads · 13/12/2022 22:39

Alice Cooper, the rock star, has a daughter called Calico which I think is a fabulous name.

Cadence (maybe this is actually a name, like Melody or Harmony?)

Nectarine

Aioli

mum2jakie · 13/12/2022 22:40

Cadence is a legitimate name!

Keeping on the musical theme, I'll go for Arpeggio.

Rubella

KhaleesiOfChaos · 13/12/2022 22:59

Sorry if this has already been mentioned as I haven't RTFT but...

Syphilis is such a pretty word, it would make a beautiful name in a parallel universe!

Faradalla · 13/12/2022 22:59

Gonorrhea

Beancounter1 · 14/12/2022 09:54

Some great ones here. Melanoma and Rubella 😂
I am seeing a medical theme.

Lochia
Chlorine
Conifer

Beancounter1 · 14/12/2022 10:21

Conifer is a good one - someone could actually use that (if they were the type of parent to call a child ocean or sky or some made-up nature name).

Areola

Lavendersquare · 14/12/2022 11:43

Some came to mind:

Passata
Brie
Terrine
Ramekin
Mandolin
Oreo

Beancounter1 · 14/12/2022 11:55

Wasn't Brie or Bree used as a name in 'Desperate Housewives'? It may be a name in German (I think the character was German).

Notellinganyone · 14/12/2022 12:40

Tibia, Fallacy, Veloute.

Tibia, Fallacy, Veloute.

I can imagine Tibia Hayward-Jones and Veloute Fellows being in Downtown Abbey, Tibia would have been a racy bright thing whereas Veloute would be the serious feminist type.

RicherThanYews · 01/01/2023 22:06

Fontanelle sounds lovely, almost Italian or French. In response to someone earlier suggesting gonorrhea, I always thought that and then I read King Lear who of course had a daughter called Goneril - there was much hilarity in our English Literature classes 😳

Itstarts · 01/01/2023 22:15

Fallatio could definitely be a name if it wasn't for its meaning.
