If someone you barely know was hosting a posh dinner party at their home with a private chef doing dinner and drinks, what would you take as a gift? I don't want to go empty handed drink wise, but wouldn't want to take something embarrassing, I generally go for a £6 bottle 😂 Would I take drinks and a gift? Maybe a potted Xmas plant? My own friends dinner parties it'd be byob, usually plonk and cider. I can afford to buy something nicer but I'm clueless as to what... especially a bottle. I'm not used to moving in these types of circle, help a sister out 😉

A plant or flowers is a very safe option

IvyDora · 13/12/2022 21:28

Yes agreed, a plant of some sort in nice pot

That's a start, thanks! What about something to drink?

Maybe a bottle of champagne?

Houseplantmad · 13/12/2022 21:46

I’d take champagne and some nice chocolates.

After dinner chocolates!

I'd take a nice plant/flowers & very nice chocolates (the sort that come hand painted) wrapped/presented really beautifully.

Generally something that gets drunk/eaten or used up like candles or soaps so that you don't gift a thing they'll feel they have to keep if they don't like it.
Nothing you made yourself unless you are Michelangelo reincarnated (& even then you'd be better with sweets)
If staying the night, I'd double the budget on what I was bringing as a host/hostess gift.

Don't just pick something & shove it at them in a carrier bag, make it look good whatever it is.
It makes it look more like you appreciate them hosting you.
