Hello, please help!

DH and I have two children under seven and both have SEN so we've not been able to get away together as we used to pre-children for a very long time.

He turns 40 next year. I've sorted childcare and am going to book us a European break just for two nights. I don't know where to start these days! Any suggestions for city or (or not even city just nice breaks but will be March/April so not hot) that don't include the following because we've done them before, would be really welcomed and helpful.

Barcelona
Paris
Rome
Berlin

We like nice places to eat (not crazily expensive but decent) he likes football (so can always arrange a Stadium tour if it fits) and your usual touristy stuff. Decent wine and a nice hotel anywhere is a bonus! Grin

Need to be able to fly there direct from any of the London airports (except Stanstead) or Birmingham.

I've been toying with the idea of Milan or Madrid, any thoughts on those - what to do/see?

Thank you wonderful Mumsnetters!

I loved Milan and it ticks the football box. We booked a day trip to Lake Como too.

We went to Amsterdam during the last half term. DH and DS did a tour at Ajax while I spent the day in the Rijksmuseum. We travelled by Eurostar and it took about 4 hours.
