WWYD?

I own a flat in a block of flats. It's a pleasant place mostly.

New neighbours have a pitbull type dog that actually seems very sweet but is never on a lead. It will rush up to people curiously but never barks. Sometimes i encounter it in the stairwell on its own.

I don't really like that it's running around off-lead in our garden or corridors. I spoke to our (off-site) building manager who said dogs should definitely be on a lead and that she'd speak to them. (Neighbours are the flat right next to me.) Building manager then got back to me and said, "The people at Flat X said they don't have a dog." So problem solved?

I've spoken with neighbour a couple of times along the lines of, "Could you hold him?" but they took offense.

WWYD? Just leave it?

Surely you take a photo of the dog and send it to the building manager ?

I'm embarrassed to say I tried that and the neighbours saw me and came and pounded on my door.

I wouldn't do anything because the neighbour might make my life hell, it's not worth it you're reasoning with liars who don't have basic decency or manners. It's not worth the aggro.

I've no intention of moving!

Why don't you go round there and say you're frightened of dogs and would they mind keeping the dog in/hold by collar when you're around.
If you have no intention of moving, I'd try to keep it as friendly as possible.

Ugh. Friendly?

Well why not. So crazy it might work. I'll keep you posted.

No I'm pretty sure it's a pitbull.

The plot thickens. I went over to the offending flat with a plate of treats and a Christmas card with my number and a friendly message. I figured nothing to lose.

The woman who answered was not the very young rough girl with dog, but another woman altogether, who seemed a little older and very very quiet. Anyway we introduced ourselves and wished each other a good night. I said something like, "I hope I didn't get off on the wrong foot with your friends.." but she was so quiet and I dropped it. I remember her name from when I've been misdelivered her post so she's definitely the owner.

So that's a relief, the new weird dog people are likely lodgers, or maybe new friends who visit daily?
