Immediate bleeding after flu jab

I had my covid and my flu jab today. No issues with covid booster but after withdrawing the needle from my flu jab I had a flow of blood from the injection site which trickled down my arm. It stopped quickly after pressure applied and hasn’t bled since. No bruising. The nurse doing it looked horrified and said he’d never seen anyone bleed that way. I have terrible health anxiety and am panicking that it went into a vein or something. Can someone reassure me? The nurse said it was okay but clearly wasn’t happy it happened.

Incidentally had some bloods taken recently and my platelets etc are fine.

Had it happen to me before nothing wrong

Wishiwasatailor · 13/12/2022 18:55

sometimes you might catch a vein or capillary vessel nothing to worry about

It happens. My first covid jab I had an actual spurt of blood which hit the nurse which she was a bit surprised by. But it hasn't happened since and I had no ill effects

It's totally fine. Sometimes we bleed when someone stick's something sharp into us! I have injections and blood tests fairly regularly, sometimes I bleed, sometimes I don't. Honestly nothing to worry about either way.

KillerRobotCompetition · 13/12/2022 18:57

Normal, don’t worry.
I inject hundreds of people and It just happens every so often.

QuestionableMouse · 13/12/2022 19:01

They're trained to draw back on the needle a bit to check for blood before injecting (or at least it was drummed into me when doing injections for the horses!)

It won't hurt you, probably just a little capillary bleeding from the injection site. 😊

Health anxiety is the pits, isn't it? 😕

I had a blood test drawn today. Not quite as dramatic, but normally my blood stops immediately and this time it carried on bleeding at the site for a bit longer. The nurse said it was the cold weather. Heart rates increase the blood to the extremities and that means the blood flows a bit stronger. Not a problem.

They don't draw back these days.
Happened to me a couple of times when doing Covid vaccinations. I assumed a capillary got in the way!

Thank you all so much! Feeling massively reassured 🙂
