Which new small car?

GirlWithTheYellowHat · 13/12/2022 18:47

I’m in need of a new car and I want to buy new for various reasons.
Does anyone own or have an opinion on the following cars:
Dacia Sandero
Kia Picanto
MG3
Hyundai i10
Basically the 4 cheapest new cars on the market. They’re all a similar price but the MG has a bigger engine. The Dacia only had a 3 year warranty and I believe the others all have 7 years.
It’s just me, DP and 2 children who are no longer in booster seats. Boot space is always handy for shopping etc. I see the Dacia has the biggest boot but the shorter warranty is a big negative for me.
I need to go see the in person but looking for personal opinions please!

Huyundai they are fab

EVHead · 13/12/2022 18:53

I have had Hyundais for years - they’re great. I plan on my next one being the new i10 as the spec is great for the price.

Unifolorn · 13/12/2022 18:54

I had a picanto and absolutely hated it, I'd go for the i10 out of those as the interior and accessories are better.

Amicompletelyinsane · 13/12/2022 18:56

I've just got a picanto. Can't fault it. We've fitted 3 children in the back. 2 with boosters. Can fit a weekly shop in the small boot and it's good on fuel and no tax

WetBandits · 13/12/2022 18:57

Can I throw a Suzuki Alto into the mix? Best car I’ve ever had.

CrownTheTurkey · 13/12/2022 19:01

My daughter drives a new Hyundai i10 and says out of all the small cars she's had, it's the best one by far.

IsItaCowIsItaPlane · 13/12/2022 19:04

I bought a Dacia Sandero brand new in 2013 and then another one second hand after mine got written off. It is the best car that you can get for the money. And it's much bigger than you think.

topcat2014 · 13/12/2022 19:04

I've done 90k in a Logan (sandero estate) which is basically a Clio underneath.

Will get another

Fedupofballs · 13/12/2022 19:08

If you work in public sector you can get good deals with motorfinity. I’ve ordered a seat Ibiza. Was looking for a small economical second car and this offered a little bit more space but similar fuel economy to the ones listed above.

GirlWithTheYellowHat · 13/12/2022 20:28

The Suzuki and Seat are getting out my price range. But thanks for all your replies so far! Would love to hear from anyone with an MG or further opinions.

We are also looking at small cars - I’m tempted by the i10 and the Kia because of the warranty to be honest! Although I’m now off to check out the other two on your list!

MammaWeasel · 13/12/2022 20:34

We had a new dacia sandero in 2020 and she's really lovely. I'm afraid that's all I can really tell you as I don't drive myself, but we love her.

Floralnomad · 13/12/2022 20:36

If you are talking brand new then do check how long you will have to wait , my sister is picking her i10 up this week and it’s been on order for several months , she already has an i10 . I’ve got a new MGZS which we only waited a couple of months for and I must say it’s very nice and I liked the Mg 3 when I sat in one but wanted something more upright personally . I also have a Kia Soul and the rest of my family have various Kia’s ( stoning / Rio ) and we’ve never had an issue with any of them .

R00tat00tt00t · 13/12/2022 20:45

I don't know anything about the cars you listed but I decided to go smaller and more economical with my next car. I also liked the idea of being greener and using less fuel for various reasons. I have a Toyota Yaris Hybrid on order and should arrive in March (~5 month wait). It gets really good reviews and ticked all the boxes for me. Not sure how it compares to the others you're already considering?

We have Hyundai and can't fault it.

chillinwithmygnomies · 13/12/2022 21:21

I've got a picanto, it's comfy but it's crap. There's not much room in the back for 3, it's a tight squeeze for older children or adults, the boot is tiny, doesn't fit in a pram or even a weeks worth of shopping. It's good on petrol and cheap insurance.

This is correct. Even half the engine pipes etc say Renault on them. The garage told me it is a Clio wearing a disguise!!! 🤣

Hopeyoursproutsarealreadyon · 13/12/2022 21:45

I have a Mazda 2 Tamera. Had it 4 years and still love it!

Hopeyoursproutsarealreadyon · 13/12/2022 21:45

Tamura! Bloody phone!

ChristmasJingleBalls · 13/12/2022 22:03

Definitely the i10! We’ve just got an i20 after having an i10, and absolutely love it. The new i10 is such a good car. Drives soooo lovely.

NoEffingWay · 13/12/2022 22:14

Kia for the 8 year warranty

That's VERY interesting! Thanks for sharing!

I did notice the Dacia website has Renault in the web address, which if I'm honest puts me off. I've always swore I'd never buy a French car 🤣
