Can’t be bothered with Christmas this year

As the title says I just can’t be bothered this year. I’ve pretty much done all the gift shopping. Just need to finalise the food delivery. But I just can’t find any joy in it. Am I the only one?

No, everyone is full of joy what with the col crisis, the war, the weather, you’re the only one.

The cost of living crisis isn’t impacting us and I always accept the weather gets colder at winter. I think it must be something else.

I've always hated Christmas, I do try and keep it as simple as possible, don't go overboard with presents and luckily my family are lovely so never any drama but I just never look forward to it. I wish I knew why 🤷‍♀️

I feel like this this year. I am exhausted, drained and see no joy in any of it. I will do it for my boys obviously, but do I want to? Nope

Akrotiri1 · 13/12/2022 17:47

I get more resentful of it every year - can't bear the commercialism, unnecessary expense, repetitive music and forced sociability.

I work in retail which probably doesn't help - working every day in the run up to Christmas, then expected to do the meal etc on my one day off.....I would love just to have a day to myself and a lie in.

As above, I do think with all the problems in the UK atm, it is very hard to feel 'chritsmassy'.....

Could it be that everything is just a bit too hectic for you? I would never want to go back to lockdown, but I do feel more burn out since that has ended like we spent so much time. We now know that weekend, I need to start say no to a few things.

I haven't done anything. No one in my family makes any effort and after almost 30 years, neither I am - not lifting a finger. Fed up with the whole commercial exercise and running around after everyone else.

I’m with you OP. I have had the worst year of my life. My sister died and I’ve been in and out of work, money worries and stress, worst every year I just can’t wake up from. I would like this Christmas to be over quickly, but I have young kids and I know I must try to embrace the sparkle and get festive. It’s with a heavy heart I enter Christmas this year knowing it will never be the same again.

Paranoidandroidmarvin · 13/12/2022 18:26

I have been like this for years. Since my son is now older Xmas age not the same.
My husband is the cook in the family and loves cooking Xmas dinner. But he goes all out. It’s really lovely. But it means he spends most of the day in the kitchen so I’m on my own.
would prefer to stay in bed. Eat pizza and watch the tv.

Valerie49 · 13/12/2022 19:10

I am alone. My husband passed away about 8 years ago. So, for me, Xmas day is just another day.
I agree, it is now just so Commercialised and Uncaring - so far removed from how I remember it used to be.
I do not expect or ask for anything but one thing I do is, despite my lack of income, to think about those less fortunate than myself.
I am no Saint, not on a bandwagon - just someone who desperately wishes for things to get better, kinder, more caring, hopeful, happier
I have made a donation to the Salvation Army this year.
Please - can I ask anyone reading this post to please, please, if you can, make a donation to any Charity to help here in the UK or anywhere in the world.
Even £5.00 will help.
