Our class collection has amounted to a very generous 300 pound for teacher and teaching assistant this Xmas.

I am tasked with getting gifts/ vouchers

So what would you like if you were a teacher/ teaching assistant ( have to split between 1 teacher and 2 TA)

If vouchers what type?

Thanks

Definitely not All4one - see the previous thread on there.

It depends on how confident you are with your gift giving.

At my last school that did this- one of the mums was a great gift giver and organised the collection. She would frequently ask me about my outfits, noticed I wore perfume and compliment my make up, etc. I was absolutely delighted with a mini Mac Christmas edition lipstick, a candle that smelt like my regular perfume from a small shop and the rest in Zara vouchers. I was bowled over. The card was the best bit though, and her kind words on behalf of their parents.

If you know the teacher’s/TA’s style, a little something like a scarf/make up/candle/gloves and then a voucher too would be great. If you don’t, vouchers!

Absolutely don’t get anything school related or child related. My colleague that year had her collection spent on a hoodie with the kids drawn faces on and a matching teatowel and mug set… I know the thought is what counts but here the thought was ‘you are not a person. Your life is the kids. You should have no capacity to enjoy anything other than work’.

If you don't know the well go for something like Amazon, M&S, love to shop (lots of others exist) that gives them a wide range of options of what to do with it.

Today? I'd love sufficient staff in the building or 7 tonnes of chocolate.

I'd like an amazon voucher please! I know they are dodgy tax-wise (and working conditions) but they have such a huge range that pretty much everyone can find things they want on there.

I love a John Lewis or Selfridges voucher, personally.

John Lewis

Our teachers ask for Amazon, so they can buy school supplies if they want to. Saves them spending their own money. I know they shouldn't have to, but they do.

BarbaraofSeville · 13/12/2022 16:12

A 'middle of the road' shop that is easily accessible.

JL and Selfridges are too expensive and a trek for most people. It would be a pain for most people to have money that they had to spend there. Plus unless you're a regular shopper, the shops are too big and overwhelming. You've no idea what they sell or where to start looking.

M&S is good because while they do sell 'treaty' things, they also sell affordable basics so you can spend it without thinking the voucher would go a lot further elsewhere, or have to pay delivery etc.

Amazon is also a good choice. I know no-one on MN ever shops there, but their sales volumes suggest that many people do.

Something luxurious like Jo Malone or The White Company.

I'm a TA and have kindly been given Amazon vouchers previously but it's so nice to be able to choose something really special.

I have been tasked with organising our class collection for summer leavers. May i ask how you arranged money collection? PayPal pooling appears to be closed. Would like any ideas of easiest/ most transparent way for parents to pay. Thanks in advance

white stuff and Jo Malone are quite expensive, some people like luxury items whereas others wouldn’t so I would think something with more options is a bit better
