It's minus 4 and I've just missed my bus home from work.
No taxis for over a hour and the bus will be here at 9.30 pm
How to stay warm?
There's no shelter
Can I catch hyperthermia being in this cold?

Is there no where near by at all you can get some shelter? Shop, supermarket, pub?

How far away from home are you?

I'd probably walk towards home on the bus route and jump on closer tbh. Warmer walking than standing still but it's rubbish for you!

Yes. I'd keep walking to the next bus stop if you can. That way you're at least nearer home.

If this happens to me I start walking the bus route and hope I'm near a stop when the next one comes

You won't get hyperthermia in less than an hour unless your standing they're in a bikini

There's a one stop shop but I feel stupid asking to wait inside.
I might go in and look around but don't want to look like a shoplifter
My boyfriends at work till midnight but good news there's another bus due in 15 mins so not as bad - I have a 10 min walk after I get off but better than waiting a hour isn't it

If not, then keep moving around. Keep your blood flowing. Don't overdo it so you get sweaty.

Also stay somewhere busy. Don't go off the beaten track.

Walk, keep pacing up and down. Move your fingers and toes.
You will not get hypothermia, but you will feel numb if you just stand or sit.

OP, I'd definitely hop on the bus that comes along next if it goes in roughly the right direction. Anything is better than standing with no shelter in this weather.

I agree, there are so many disagreeable posters at the moment. It puts me off starting threads and is making mn a lot less pleasant.

Slightly off topic but if you know where your wellies are letting in water I'd recommend stormsure to seal them up. I've got an extra year or so from a pair of wellies patching as I go.
