A & E for blood pressure?

Posting here as more traffic than health.

Just that really. 35 year old female. Had foam treatment for varicose veins last week under local anaesthetic. All seemed to go well at the time.

Since then over the weekend I've had increased swelling and pain in the upper area of my leg where I had the treatment. Keep going hot and cold and have a dry cough that feels like a stitch at times. Went to see someone as the discharge papers said to attend GP if I had symptoms like I do.

I saw a clinician today. My bp was 170/139 and my pulse around 130. No temperature worth mentioning.

I've been dispatched home with some antibiotics as there is a chance of post operative infection. Was advised that if I have any more pain in legs or chest or cough up blood then go to A&E.

I'm just concerned about that blood pressure and don't know what to do. Leave it and see how I am after a sleep or go anyway as I'm worrying?

What would you do?

The heart rate and feeling of a stitch, after vein surgery and having a swelling in your leg would definitely say A&E to me. I'd want to be checked for a PE. No point calling 111, they will only say go to A&E and you could have been there by now.

I hope you have been seen or are waiting to be seen in A&E OP.

I've been sent by GP several times in the past to A&E, On one occasion my only symptom was nausea, my bp was 220/200, the back of my eyes was under pressure with fluid and I ended up as an inpatient for 10 days as I was very close to stroking.

Dont mess about with blood pressure, A*E would rather rule out possible DVT, post op complications and be able to work out how to proceed to treat it and with high numbers, its not a waste of their time.

HowdidIdoit · 13/12/2022 01:50

That BP is insane. I can't understand how a medical professional sent you home . Insane.

HowdidIdoit · 13/12/2022 01:54

I'm on the other end of the bp scale now. 87/68 and that's up a bit from an hour ago. My hr is 117.
I'm in utter agony. I feel like I've 10 knives stabbing into my chest.
I genuinely can't believe someone sent you home with those stats. Are they insane? I wouldn't be surprised if the OP never comes back as they're levels that kill you.

Hello all.
Just a little update. I've been seen at A & E. ironically my bp had dropped and was told my BP was low now though my pulse still rapid. Was given a thorough examination, blood tests etc. was given stronger pain relief and also different antibiotics. Have an appointment today for more tests. Was under strict instructions to go straight back if I worsened at all. I genuinely can't remember ever feeling this unwell.

Thank you for those who checked up on me

That's good that they're keeping an eye on you now. I hope you're better soon xx

LadyGardenersQuestionTime · 14/12/2022 10:15

Please do err on the side of caution and make sure someone can take you in for those tests. If you start feeling confused or very shivery or notice you’re not peeing call for help straight away - worthy of 999.

Glad you have an appt today
what did they say about blood clots?

togotoaande · 14/12/2022 19:09

I had all the tests today. Scans and everything. All looks good but I have to have a follow up with the vascular team to talk about it more

Cool
do you feel better though?

Lmgify · 14/12/2022 23:26

Hope they’ll find out what’s wrong and fix it soon.

fifteenohfour · 15/12/2022 13:07

@togotoaande poor thing I need this done as well. Can I ask did you have it done privately? It's there a chance they used dodgy materials? A lot of new beauty places get approved to provide this treatment but buy cheap drugs from countries with lax quality standards. I'm not saying this happened in this instance it's just a minefield out there Xmas Sad even worse because the NHS don't do this hardly ever anymore and the standards have really slipped.

Hope your feeling better soon x

lljkk · 15/06/2023 21:08

What was the follow up , @togotoaande ? Do you still have a high BP problem?
