Unsettling experience

I was at the petrol pump and I was looking for the petrol pump for petrol, not unleaded, obviously it wasn't there, I stood for a few seconds not knowing what to do. I then saw a sticker saying that E10 unleaded was suitable for all car's, so I used the unleaded.

Whilst paying I asked the woman when did the petrol pumps change, she said - donkeys year's ago.

This shook me up because I have no recollection of ever using the unleaded pump in my car, only the old petrol.

It took me about 2 days to come to terms with this.

Was I in a time lapse or am I going senile?

I'm 66.

What have you used for the past 20 years then? Diesel?

Mydogatemypurse · 12/12/2022 18:08

How olds your car? It has been years. Have you just got so used to it you havnt really paid attention before

MummyDummyNow · 12/12/2022 18:10

Leaded petrol was banned in 2000, so well over 20 years ago. Have you just had diesel cars since then?

Has anything like this happened before, as in getting confused? Maybe a chat with the Dr?

halfsiesonapotnoodle · 12/12/2022 18:11

What on earth are you referring to OP? Have you only had diesel you mean? 4 star petrol hasn't been available for decades!

ElfHasBeenSilly · 12/12/2022 18:17

lol what?

PollyAmour · 12/12/2022 18:21

Early onset dementia?

Inspirationpending · 12/12/2022 18:25

OP are you referring to E10 pumps? That only changed last year. Perhaps the cashier misunderstood what you meant

pinkpotatoez · 12/12/2022 18:30

So what have you been using? There's unleaded, premium and then diesel

Itsbeginingtolookalotlikechristma · 12/12/2022 18:31

I've had my current car for 8 year's and obviously have used unleaded petrol in it. But for that few seconds I was looking for the 4star pump, like I had gone back 22 years. It really was very strange, but very real.

Sorry Op, You need a Dr's appointment. There has been no 4 star for years.

I had a variety of company cars, diesel, petrol and unleaded, until I retired at 58, and this one for the last 8 year's.
I feel like I slipped into the past!

If it helps, I had the same brain fart a couple of weeks ago. I'm 51! I had absolutely no idea what to put in my car, was confused by E10 and there was an E5 option as well. I was totally baffled and had to ask.

Same petrol station I always go to. Never had a diesel.

You are not alone!

MargaretThursday · 12/12/2022 18:45

I had similarish a few years ago. I got out the car on the way to work to get some money out and could not remember my PIN. I've had the same PIN since I got that card and never had a problem about using it. It was like there was a hole where the PIN number was.

The same week dh came out of the place he'd worked in for 5 years to come home, to the home we'd been in for over 10 years and cycled completely the wrong way for 10 minutes before realising. He phoned me totally bemused where he was.

Neither of us has had that sort of confusion before or since.
We both had mild cold like symptoms, and I concluded that maybe we had some sort of virus which included confusion in the symptoms.

Maybe it's similar. However I do think write it down, and just keep an eye on it in case there is more to it.

AnotherAppleThief · 12/12/2022 18:45

You keep calling it 'petrol and unleaded' - do you think you just aren't really sure what the different types are called and therefore getting mixed up?

Not a dig, just trying to help you figure it all out.

Mydogatemypurse · 12/12/2022 18:46

Have you been under stress. When im stressed I cant even remember my own name.

Cornelious · 12/12/2022 18:50

Where I am our petrol pumps have just changed to E10 from unleaded.

What I mean by petrol is the 4star ,which was discontinued in 2000

I realise that, I know the difference but it's highlighting your confusion.

OrangePomander · 12/12/2022 18:57

You’re not thinking of Super Unleaded, are you? It’s the high octane one, still available but not at every petrol station.

AccidentallyRunToWindsor · 12/12/2022 18:58

See I had a car that ran on 4 star that I scrapped in 2003 so now I am confused as you are all saying it was stopped on 2000!

I don't think I was confused, I was looking for a pump that I thought should have been there, but hasn't been for 22years!

I wasn't thinking of anything other than - where has the 4star pump gone!

"I don't think I was confused, I was looking for a pump that I thought should have been there, but hasn't been for 22years!"

That sounds like the height of confusion.
