A few days ago I tripped and fell hard on the pavement, hurting mainly my face and hands. I was patched up ar a local Urgent Treatment Centre, but an hour or so after getting home I suddenly began getting a sharp pain around the top of my ribs on the left. I hadn't been aware of any pain from my ribs before, and I thought it might have been precipitated by gong upstairs or maybe twisting round ln some way, maybe because of bruising or something else. The pain has stayed and is quite bad at times, making it difficult to catch my breath.
I remember having something similar-ish once before after a fall. That time, the pain in my rib began immediately and continued, but around two-three weeks later it suddenly seemed to move to the other side of my chest, where it was if anything worse. It just gradually got better over several weeks.
Does anyone know, is this a normal effect of bruised or cracked ribs - I mean the business of having no pain initially only for quite bad pain to come on and stay some time later? I know there's probably not much anyone can do about it, but I just wonder whether I ought to get it checked in case there is any greater problem or any danger of a fractured rib being where it shouldn't be.
