Warm/hot sensation in lower left leg

Had this on and off now for a couple of days, it's very weird, like I've stood next to a radiator. It happens intermittently and whether I'm walking or sitting etc.
any ideas ? It isn't sore, my legs were aching this morning but I blamed it on the cold. Doesn't look any different but definitely going warmer suddenly

I am 10 weeks post partum and did have to take blood thinners during pregnancy for a blood clotting condition I have but I've never had a dvt and my leg is just warm not sore or anything else. Could it be nerves ?

Measure the circumference of your leg. Is it bigger than the other one?

Call 111. From what you have said it sounds like you could be at risk of DVT. You could get an appt at an urgent treatment centre.

SophiaLarsen · 12/12/2022 10:12

Also, take your baby with you.

Candleabra · 12/12/2022 10:14

Could be a blood clot. I would get it checked out asap.

That could be a sign of a dvt. You need to be checked out.

TheTeenageYears · 12/12/2022 10:15

Seek medical attention asap - it could be a dvt especially if you have a blood clotting condition and are no longer taking blood thinners.

warmleg · 12/12/2022 11:14

My leg looks completely normal, no discoloration, swelling, nothing. Just this bloody warm feeling ! Yesterday it only happened a couple of times but it's a lot more today, it's such a weird feeling to describe ! Just warm!

I really don't want to go to a&e if I don't have too with the way it is atm especially with my baby. Also don't want to be told I'm wasting time.

Can blood clots come on really slowly ?

OP posts:
Candleabra · 12/12/2022 11:37

understand you don’t want to go to a&e, but could be v serious so worth getting it checked out.
Have you phoned 111?

Itsoktogiveup · 12/12/2022 11:39

I wouldn’t go to A&E unless you have to, and if you do, wear a face mask as it’ll be packed full of scarlet fever and covid cases.

Get a private GP on facetime for £50 to ask whether they think it could be a blood clot or eg sciatica.

Mrsjayy · 12/12/2022 11:41

Get a GP appointment explain what you said here and see if they will see you today. I don't think you need to be bypassing your gp to ring 111 or sit in A&E just yet.

warmleg · 12/12/2022 11:54

Will be no chance of a gp appointment at my surgery!

I've got my dcs Xmas performance this afternoon too, I think I will see how it goes over the course of the day and then call 111 later if I think I need too. Obviously if pain/swelling starts that's a different matter.

I just know as soon as I say I've got this blood clotting disorder they will tell me to go to a&e! I understand it could be serious but I also feel a bit silly with just a warm leg lol

OP posts:
Mrsjayy · 12/12/2022 11:57

Well its not silly because not everything has to be very painful to need treatment ,you have noticed something different with your leg you know that it really needs to be looked at. Even if its not right away get it checked out

warmleg · 12/12/2022 12:36

Okay it gets weirder, the left side of my face is warm now too, around my temple and under my eye ? Maybe it's a virus ?!

Floralnomad · 12/12/2022 12:38

Does it feel like someone has tipped a hot drink on your leg - I get that and was told it was trapped nerves / nerves being pinched .

Dillydollydingdong · 12/12/2022 12:40

Why do you ask MN for our opinion and advice when you've no intention of taking it? I've had a DVT - it's unpleasant, concerning and potentially life threatening. Go and get it investigated, THEN you can get it ruled out! It's not a good idea to brush it off without having it properly looked at.

Who said I have no intention of getting it checked out ? I am making sure I am not going to add to the masses of stress the hospitals are under first of all, also going by the nhs page on dvts I only have 1 of the signs of it, so therefore am a little dubious atm. As said before I am going to see how it goes over the course of the day before rushing off to a&e

I do appreciate what you're saying and understand I have some risks too. I have never had a clot before, I only found out I have protein S deficiency through blood tests I had for a miscarriage after fertility treatment, otherwise I'd be none the wiser.

Thank you that's better than I was imagining.

I will see how it goes. I would've thought if it is a clot some more signs would start showing up soon enough too.
Thanks everyone for the advice

I’ll stop after this as it’s your call. My leg doesn’t always swell but I do get hot spots, sometimes tingling, sometimes increased pulse. It’s not just what the NHS website says. I didn’t know about DVTs when I had my first and waited days. The result when I did get classic symptoms? MASSIVE clot extending up my thigh and a hospital stay. The venal damage from which has left me in constant pain from post thrombotic syndrome and increased risk of further clots, which I’ve had. Have you started taking any oral contraceptives.

Anyway, good luck and hope it’s not that.

TheTeenageYears · 12/12/2022 14:44

It took 6 months from first symptoms to pulmonary embolism in a family member but much quicker 2nd time around. A blood clotting condition then diagnosed and blood thinners for life.

CoffeeBoy · 12/12/2022 14:49

Well it’s perfectly possible to have a blood clot with no signs at all. It’s not known as the silent killer for nothing. Dd had no signs or symptoms of her dvts until they travelled to her lungs. Even then she was fobbed off multiple times as muscle pain as it wasn’t really text book.

in view of the fact you’re recently postnatal and higher risk you should go and be seen.

warmleg · 13/12/2022 09:47

On hold to 111 atm. While waiting just want to know if others with experience, is dizziness a sign of a possible blood clot too? My leg stopped feeling want last night but it's happening again this morning and I'm dizzy, like a woozy feeling but other than that okay

OP posts:
CoffeeBoy · 13/12/2022 10:47

Yes. Dd was dizzy and woozy with her clot. Said she felt spaced out

warmleg · 13/12/2022 10:47

111 don't seem concerned, waiting on a callback from a nurse or paramedic. When I said there was no pain, swelling or redness they took me on the pathway for the dizziness instead
