I'm in a new build, 5 bedroom 3 storey house. I have not used my heating ( at all ) I do a 30 min wash 2/3 times a week. Plus a quick shower/ wash. Use electric oven or gas hob once a day. Microwave here and there. Plus tvs . Play station WiFi. Don't use a dryer. Based on 5 people

Good that's my aim. To keep it as low as possible

Aren't you a bit cold with no heating on at all? It is freezing where I am!

I guess it depends what you mean by reasonable? As in are you using less than others? The same? It seems a bit of a strange question as surely you know your budget and the app shows how much you've spent so it only needs to reasonable in regards to can you afford it really.

I guess I meant generally. I can't afford it but I have no choice. I do I reading and make a payment twice a week . Because I'm scared of the cost. I don't actually budget it as I cab never be 100% what I will use. I don't think its a strange question no different to what lots of others are asking

I just think it's strange because it's impossible to answer as it depends entirely on your personal circumstances. Given you say you can't afford this much that would suggest it isn't a reasonable amount to use and you should be trying to use less. Someone who could afford twice the amount would be entirely reasonable to be using that.

It was just a general question. Don't really need to look into it to deeply.

If you're averaging 20kwh of electricity a day you're using about 80% more than us, we're a family of 4 so I think you might be able to make some savings. My house is much smaller but that shouldn't make any difference if you're turning things off when not in use.

Lemonlady22 · 11/12/2022 16:39

So you have a new 5 bed house you can’t afford to heat? Really?

orbitalcrisis · 11/12/2022 16:41

Does the 20kwh per day include gas? If it does then actually we are using 50% more than you as I have the heating on. I'm in an old(ish) house and the walls end up dripping wet if I don't heat it!

I agree it does sound odd. I would rather live in a tiny house that I can heat than a large freezing house.

It must include both or their highest day use is over the total use for 11 days.
