Tell me your self care promises this Christmas

As per my username, I’ve been working on slowing down and spending a lot of time resting. This Christmas we are again at home and I’m so pleased with that. So self care wise I am going to not think that I need to fill everyday with stuff just one regular walk and if the teens want to join me that would be marvellous. Not doing lots of travelling, not overspending and definitely having a meal plan. And combined that is making me feel like yes, I’m slowing down.

I'll be overseas with family this Christmas but back in my "home town". I'm single and the last three years have been tough so I fully intend to slow down and enjoy being cared for, for a change.

I'm going to read every evening rather than watch Netflix. Go to the gym with my mum and go to the pub with my dad and brother to watch the football. Meet up with old friends for lunch and a glass of wine. Take over the kitchen at my parents' house and cook some tasty meals for them.

I'm going to count my blessings too and appreciate that although my life isn't perfect, it could be a lot worse. I'm going to focus on my diet and fitness in the New Year and finally get rid of those covid kilos before I become a middle-aged woman cliché 😒

I vow - No matter how tempting, don't open that second bottle of wine.

I would like to practice just 'being' rather than always 'doing', and notice how I feel as a result. Also plan to take more naps and not feel guilty about it. Our neighbourhood hedgehogs are hibernating, and so I'm going to take some inspiration from them :-).

Good idea for a thread. I'm going to

sleep more
drink less, the idea being I'll start much later so it'll be easier
say no to anything I don't want to do
tell my kids they can cook for themselves on several days, they are grown ups
prioritise body moisturiser, painting my nails, anything for me
Read more
Work less

Not to drink at all. To spend time with dd and 2 year old DN instead of going on the sibling pub crawl. To relax

To be 'present'. To relax and take it in and not to expect too much. Expectations for the perfect Christmas can be soul destroying.
