Invite friends round a couple of weeks before Christmas! It made me do a deep clean do now it’s just a tickle for Christmas . I struggle to motivate myself too x

Puzzledstill · 11/12/2022 11:56

Il try and get some today my house looks clean but it’s under couches and a few kitchen drawers. My son has a hamster and it’s my living room making it look untidy. Maybe I put it in his room? x

Yep, normally the weekend before Christmas I will boot DH & DS out the house for the day and I will blitz the house. With Christmas falling on a Sunday this year I will probably look to do the blitz on the Friday before. Only thing is I have my works Christmas do on the Thursday night so hopefully won't be too hungover 😆

no keep my house clean and tidy enough all year round christmas morning might run the hoover round the lounge as i dont want visitors getting covered in cat hairs and mop the kitchen floor thats it

RocketIceLollie · 11/12/2022 12:04

I'd just focus on the living room, dining room, kitchen, and the bathroom. Also the downstairs loo if you have one.

upfucked · 11/12/2022 12:06

No. Christmas time is too busy and we are normally ill in the run up to it.

I do want to clean the rugs downstairs but I doubt that’s going to happen.

Yes, before the Christmas trees are put up .

Kanaloa · 11/12/2022 12:11

I think it might put a lot of pressure on you thinking you need to make the whole house perfect just before an already stressful/busy time (Christmas).

I would maybe focus on one room. So say ‘I’ll sort the living room before Christmas Day.‘ And then maybe your new year resolution could be to get on top of it, maybe trying to do a bit each day.

Is everyone else in the house (partner etc) pulling their weight? This can add pressure too.

I’m hoping to shampoo my carpets the week before Christmas.

We are hosting this year. I generally am pretty good at keeping on top of the house and regularly doing deep cleans on free weekends but I will be giving DP a list of things I want cleaning xmas eve before his parents come while I am doing the food prep

Hunkahunkaa · 11/12/2022 13:09

I have a Christmas clean.
Strip beds, clean kickboards/ skirting boards, pull it sofa etc, polish glass and tv unit etc. hoover everywhere and mop all the laminate floors. Get all laundry away if I can and get all the Christmas jammies out ready for wearing now. I get the kids to go through their toys and have a big charity shop dump and tip run of all our unwanted.

I write a big 'hunch' list and work through it all.
I use my spiced apple spray and Christmas winter spice zoflora on bathrooms and kitchen surfaces to give the house a christmassey smell.
I go through the cupboards and food bank anything we won't use in the next few months or with a short shelf life that we are unlikely to use,
I defrost and clean the fridge freezer and we eat up all the 'left over' meals as a pit luck type dinner.

SpacePotato · 11/12/2022 13:15

No, I do a basic tidy, wipe, vacuum and hide the shite in the back room.

The proper clean happens new year when the decs get put away.

ListenLinda · 11/12/2022 13:15

Yes, especially as we are hosting this year.
I am itching to get it done today as we are staying home and have no plans. But with my two, there is no point. It won’t stay that way and they will just keep interrupting ha.
settling for doing some painting touch ups where we had water damage from the wet weather and will do my usually cleaning.

I need to do:
shampoo living room carpet
skirting boards & mop all hardwood floors
hoover every where, pull stuff out.
good clean of the bathrooms
clean fridge out & make room in freezer
general clear out and sort out

NewToWoo · 11/12/2022 13:25

Yes
As well as hoover, polish, mop and scrub bathroom, I also wash the windows inside and out, wash down tiles and paint work and clean out the fridge.

I love a clean house at Christmas.

mondaytosunday · 11/12/2022 14:05

No. Currently I have scraps of wrapping paper scattered about and a few ornaments rolling on the floor (cats).
I'll tidy it all up when I have guests for lunch next week but no I do not do a big clean in the sense you mean.

greenhousegal · 11/12/2022 14:15

I'd only get a cleaning frenzy done (and as minimal as possible) if someone is coming over for dinner/visit/to stay. Otherwise nothing special for Christmas, just the usual clean around that everyone (mostly) does.

Anyway I am very lucky in that I have a DP who likes housework and is happy to do it, unlike me. But if he starts to clean around me I get the rage...

GreyCarpet · 11/12/2022 14:18

Sort of...

I do the living room when I move furniture to put the tree up and we did the kitchen this morning - cupboards empties and everything.

Not because its Christmas but because its a focal point to get things in order.

My bedroom is next.

I mean that’s semi good news - at least you can get on to of it and control it yourself. I know some people use the organised mum? I don’t personally, I just do it as I go along, but it’s supposed to be good.

Also recommend a declutter. Trying to clean and tidy when you’re just bursting with stuff is 100 times harder than it needs to be.

RocketIceLollie · 11/12/2022 14:19

Hamsters are notoriously smell creatures. You really have to keep on top of cleaning their cage. Like at least twice a week.
