There’s a lot of ‘what’s your salary’ questions this weekend.

And your DH’s salary, your pension etc.

What am I missing?

OP posts:

There are. It’s odd.

Stealth boasting nosey fuckers… the cold weather draws them out

WandaWonder · 11/12/2022 09:59

And no back story that I can recall just a random question

It is strange. They just end up as a random list of numbers, people seem to really want to share, even on the ones where the OP doesn’t even say why they want to know. 🤷‍♀️

Fishing for information on Mumsnet user demographics?

W00p · 11/12/2022 10:12

I smell journalists looking for data OP.

Sparklingbrook · 11/12/2022 10:16

Can this info not be found on the internet somewhere? I don’t get it.

latetothefisting · 11/12/2022 10:16

Yes and I really really don't see the point of sourcing non verifiable information from self-selective respondents when actual statistics about the average salary, complete with break down by area/sex/location/full or part time etc is so easily available.

The only thing it's useful for is showing that the majority of people on high salaries refuse to believe they are, and/or that its impossible to exist on less than £80k despite the fact the majority of the population clearly do so!

Sparklingbrook · 11/12/2022 10:21

It’s never going to include the salaries of people that don’t answer because they think the thread is 🙄

Notanotherone6 · 11/12/2022 10:42

Those sort of threads are pointless because 99% of the responses are lies. I'm not sure what the op is trying to gain, other than perhaps trying to prove that they're better than everyone.

bumblefeline · 11/12/2022 10:43

It's all bullshit a lot of the replies. Everyone can't be a high earner.

FuckabethFuckor · 11/12/2022 10:45

Goady fuckers goadily fuckering. Getting loads of people to blether on about their big salaries contrasted with the energy crisis and people freezing in their homes.

ZenNudist · 11/12/2022 10:48

I post silly replies on these threads like "image manager to the stars £900k plus bonuses".

I'd never share my actual salary.

LimeCheesecake · 11/12/2022 10:48

Cost of living is biting. Lots of people look for new jobs in the New Year (used to work in recruitment and you’d come in after the bank holiday to lots of CVs, then at the end of the month lots of clients looking to replace staff who’d just quit), so wools who used to be comfortable are debating whether they should look for a new job / try to negotiate a higher wage etc.

also journalists.

What temperature is your house right now?

How much electricity do you use?

What's your gas bill?

Even if you assume that any some of the responses are true, what possible difference can it make knowing the answer?

Salary - depends on your job/how many hours you work.

Temperature - depends on the type of house/type of heating/whether you turn your heating on. Whether it's cold outside.

Electricity - electric heating/HW? Tumble drier on all day. Reduced tariff? Standard MN 47 thousand loads of washing an hour?

Gas bill - gas CH/gas cooker? Are you home all day/do you have small children?

My salary is zero.

House is currently 16 degrees but I have been out all morning so heating on low. It's minus 5 outside.

No idea how much electricity we use.

Gas bill - don't have one. We have a gas tank to supply the heating. Last filled up in February, will need refilling after Christmas.

My answers above may or may not be true. Either way, how does it move the conversation forward?
