Alternative to sky garden?

Realised I've left it too late to book tickets for the week between Xmas and NYE. Any ideas on an alternative type place we could go to instead? We're travelling for a Xmas present and thought it would have been great for the views.

The views from the top of St Paul's are magical - bit if a climb though and you generally have to pay. ( NHS staff get in free I think)
View from top Of Tate modern is also good - no climbing and it's free!

The Battersea Power station experience is great and far cheaper than the Shard. Not free like the sky garden though! Rate modern has a fairly high viewing platform. Or the London Eye?

Great ideas, thank you! I'd forgotten about Tate Modern, not been in years and DD never been. Battersea and St Paul's a good shout too. London Eye probs not for us I think, did it a few years ago and was a bit underwhelmed for the price - although the views are amazing of course!

The views from the duck and waffle are good

Any rooftop restaurants like those in the Shard etc .

HelpMeCope85 · 11/12/2022 08:16

Can you book a table at Sky Garden to eat instead? Then enjoy the views?

georgedawes · 11/12/2022 08:32

We'll have a 12 year old with us, and not looking to spend loads on a meal etc

The Post Building is free and has some nice views.

I don’t think the viewing gallery at the Tate is open at the moment. How about The London Eye?

There was a shopping centre (One New Change I think?) that’s right by St Paul’s. It’s been a few years since I went but you could go to the top and there was a big outdoor terrace, for free. It was beautiful

This is v close to the Sky Garden, not quite so high but still great views, also free - you just have to queue for the lift:

120 Fenchurch Street is lovely and free thegardenat120.com/

More basic but good for that age- you can climb up the monument to the fire of London which is about a fiver I think.

georgedawes · 11/12/2022 10:12

Fab suggestions, thank you! Had forgotten about the monument. Really excited now 😁

I was going to say 1 new change and 120 fenchurch Street, both free. 120 fenchurch Street is right by sky garden so you get similar views, just not as high. new change is lower again but an amazing view of St Paul's. If you're in that area postman's Park is worth popping in to see
