So watching Independence Day (again)
There's the crop pilot who eventually ends up blowing up one of the spaceships. He's a bit of a drunk. The people in the cafe say he's been messed up because "aliens kidnapped him and did things to him". The pilot who asks him about his flying experience is also unimpressed when he says he was kidnapped by aliens.
But whilst all this is happening, the Earth is under attack by actual aliens. So he doesn't have to prove anything to them !
