Can impetigo just be sore lips and nothing else?

For over a week now I've had sore, flaky lips that split and leak clear fluid. I thought it was a reaction to a cream or other beauty product as I'm quite sensitive to make up and skin care products. I've just realised the dc have the same thing. Dd has a small crack at the corner of her mouth that hurts her, and smaller dd has sore, red lips that look crusty around the lip line. None of us have a fever, or sore throat, but we're all run down with stuffy noses. I'm wondering if it's the central heating but it would be weird to effect all of our lips, right?

Sounds like chapped lips from the change in temperature, going from warm house/classroom to outside etc.

Try Vaseline maybe.

I've always suffered very badly with sore lips and they have never leaked fluid.

Can you go and see a chemist tomorrow, they can't give you anything for the kids, but that can for you and if it is impetigo you can ring the drs and explain (had a similar situation with DD recently).

Also the crack in the corner of the mouth could be angular cheilitis, sometimes you need an anti fungal cream for that and it can be terribly sore

Cracked in the corner?

Does it look like a mini mouth?

Doesn’t sound like a staph Infection( impetigo)

In my experience impetigo is sore and also itches like crazy. I have it right now in and around my nose, it’s awful. Do they itch?

ItchyLips · 10/12/2022 20:55

No, not itchy at all. Just very dry, tight and sore. Mine felt like an allergic reaction at first as they were crusty and leaking clear fluid.

Perhaps it's just a weird side effect of a virus we're all fighting off. We've all had conjunctivitis after an illness before.

Yes, dds lips are cracked in the corner and bled slightly.

My lips went like that a few years ago, after spending a small fortune at boots I eventually made a doctors appointment. It turns out I had an infection, a prescription of antibiotic cream plus a mild steroid cream sorted it out with a few days. Don't suffer with it for too long.

I had split corners of my mouth that were very sore and open. Dr Google informed me it was angular chelitis and I tried germolone savlon, hydrocortisone, clotrimazole antifungal cream and non of these worked until I tried fucidin which is available on prescription only but you may have some knocking about like I did.

I did read that it can be impetigo.

My lips we dry but not sore and weeping it was isolated to the corner ms and had a red border. It's quite painful as I couldn't open my mouth.

I've had it three times this winter so wondering if I need some vitamins.

Fuscidin is an antibiotic cream

My son has impetigo and it wasn’t like that at all. It was a small sore that was on the underside of his nose. Thought it was just a small cut or mozzie bite that he’d scratched but it didn’t clear up and looked like a small crusted over scab.
Then he got another one on his eyebrow and I was like “hmmm” and then he woke up with one next to his eye so I was straight down the Dr who said it was impetigo.
He had an antibiotic cream (bactroban) and he also had to have oral antibiotics because of the one next to his eye.
They said if I’d brought him in with the first one, the cream alone would have been enough. I’d never even heard of impetigo!
He also had a body wash that he had to use to clear any strep from his body as well.
It was no drama, he didn’t feel ill with it or anything.

Cracked lips at corners usually is a iron & vitamin deficiency, I'd get some bloods done to rule it out.
