Which cat starts the rumour?

Of there possibly being food available?

One cat will come into the kitchen and start doing the whole rubbing-against-me-and-trying-to-lead-me-to-the-food-cupboard thing. And no matter where the other three are, they’ll all rise up from wherever they are snoozing and come in, and just sit around, waiting for this supposed food that’s on offer.

It’s always a different cat too so one of them is starting the rumour of food. How does it start? Do they just nominate on of themselves to go and try their luck?

Are my cats just particularly greedy?

😄I think they do "one potatoe, two potatoe" to see who it's gonna be this time.

DenholmElliot11 · 10/12/2022 16:36

potato

They've had lessons from my eldest cat. She will sit at the food bowl and yell at DP for food for hours, despite it NOT being food time

I always thought cats were self-regulating, controlled little things - the antithesis of the stereotypical dog that will eat anything. Clearly not!

Mine know I'm soft, my youngest two can't quite meow properly yet, it's just a squeak, how can l refuse? I feed mine little and often, always have.
I eat little and often, l can't imagine having to wait so long between meals.

AllThingsServeTheBeam · 10/12/2022 16:48

Mine gets fed when they ask.. I thought I was the only soft touch but no ... We all apparently do it. Either pouches or treats or a bowl of dry. I have 4 but there is normally at least 1 in, especially this time of year! Every likely we have no money 🙈

GorgeousLadyofWrestling · 10/12/2022 16:49

@SpentDandelion despite official dinner time being 5pm, that’s pretty much how I feed them too.

One of them has come in to stare at us and make her point silently. She’s positively seething.

Gawd OP how gorgeous is your cat! In spite of her being a greedy bugger

TimeToFlyNow · 10/12/2022 16:54

I think it's the dog that tells them in this house

GorgeousLadyofWrestling · 10/12/2022 16:59

@Amrapaali thank you - she is, isn’t she! She’s also told frequently so knows it as well 😹 And yeah she is a greedy buggar - she’s also pretty grumpy unless she needs a cuddle, at which point it’s like cuddling a giant teddy.

I’ve given in and fed them. No doubt there’ll be numerous more rumours of food this evening.

There's a cat that looks just like that near me. It sits staring into our lounge through the back door and will try and get in if it gets a chance. It's very friendly, but we have birds so not allowed inside.

One morning we were getting ready for school and it appeared from nowhere, looking very pleased with itself and happy. It had obviously hidden somewhere overnight. So apologies if it was your cat, but we don't know when it got in!

AllTheWatersTurnedToClouds · 10/12/2022 17:19

One of mine has a watch. She sets the other two off when her alarm rings

Nanatokidsdogshampsters · 10/12/2022 17:27

We haven't got a cat ourselves but we do have one visit.
She is ginger in colour and has 3 white patches on her chest.
On FB last week someone posted a photo of her and was asking
everyone not to feed her. Within 10 minutes there were 6 posts
of people saying that is my cat. With photographic evidence then
there were a couple like me saying they feed her.
She has such a begging face.

Beamur · 10/12/2022 17:35

My cats never ask DH.
I can be out all day and not a peep. I walk through the door and am mobbed.
We feed on demand, so a polite request is usually successful.

Athena51 · 10/12/2022 17:36

It's always our former stay, he's been with us for over a year now but obviously remembers being cold and hungry on the streets and is tremendously greedy (and stout to be fair). He shouts as well, then our other cat arrives and lurks like a silent, judgemental wraith 😀

That is so funny!! I bet it was so pleased with itself for getting into the elusive closed place 😂

If you live anywhere near south London, it’s possible!

MargaretThursday · 10/12/2022 18:00

Not South London, so not your cat! It is very similar though.

GorgeousLadyofWrestling · 10/12/2022 18:22

No doubt she’ll be outraged there’s an imposter 😂

MargaretThursday · 10/12/2022 20:57

The one in our garden was outraged when she saw another one in our garden once. They ended up with one on top of the wheelbarrow and one below alternating between loftily ignoring each other and spitting.

NannyGythaOgg · 10/12/2022 22:49

I adore cats

They do their own thing

They don't give a fuck

They are the epitome of 'No is a complete answer' and 'Did you mean to 'ignore' me' (slight artistic license in the second one) AND will go NC frequently - for as long as it takes them to get their own way

NannyGythaOgg · 10/12/2022 22:49

Oh and, taking no shit, they always LTB the moment they get a better offer
