Agadir - Morocco

Hi

Anybody been to Agadir? If so, would you recommend it for a few nights in January? Craving some better weather and just want to get away from the UK for a bit. Can only really go for a few nights as won’t be taking kids with us.

Any tips? Is it expensive? Good value? Safe? Things to do?

I’ve briefly visited Agadir, but really only passing through.
I’m going to Marrakesh in February and am hoping for warmth. Went in 2019 for Christmas and it was great- warm, sunny and we enjoyed the city. I know some people feel hassled in the souks: I’ve had more problems getting rid of the “genuine Gucci sunglasses” sellers on the Spanish beaches!

Ive not been to Agadir but have been to Morocco in January- Rabat and Tangier. Weather was nice but I didn't like the constant harassment from men in the street.

Blahburst · 10/12/2022 21:13

I didn’t like Agadir sorry OP. It was dirty, unfriendly and I didn’t feel safe. Couldn’t wait to get out of there. Maybe I went to the wrong part 🤷‍♀️

Been to Agadir, not great, bit boring, harrassment of my wife. Marrakesh is interesting but I think Id pick somewhere nicer like off track in the canaries or Istanbul etc.

I went a few years ago. Was ok hotel was fine and winter sun. Not my fave place and I do really like Morocco, but had a good trip.

I didn't enjoy Agadir, but it was a long time ago (late 90s) that I visited, so I'm probably very out of date. I found the hassling by men unbearable, and the town a bit dreary. Beaches were okay but nothing special. Marrakesh had the same male harassment problem but I still enjoyed seeing the city, and the food was great.

Went to Agadir over the summer. Would not recc unless you are in an all inc. hotel where you don't go out. Felt like Blackpool.

We booked through Tui with Robinson Agadir and it was great because it was end of the beach away from the crowds and stress. Would go back there but would not stay anywhere else. Next time we will book direct.

What f you want nightclubs, casino, drinking may be good? But not women friendly. Wouldn't be my choice.

Quveas · 10/12/2022 21:38

Agadir is about the only place in Morocco that I hated. Personally I would go to Essouira. Much prettier, nice and warm, more atmospheric and Moroccan. I've been in February and it's been lovely.

I went about 12 years ago with anither female friend and although we went out and about, we didn't feel 100% safe and there wasn't a great deal to do. Wouldn't really recommend unless you book a nice all inclusive place where you don't have to leave the hotel!

LadyLolaRuben · 10/12/2022 21:48

It was too windy on the coast for me and it was like that everyday.

Thereisnoname · 10/12/2022 21:49

I like Agadir as don't feel like there id any hassling of women unlike Marrakesh and Istanbul which I hated as felt totally unsafe and constantly harrased.
Yes we stay in an all inclusive but go out along the beachfront, to the souk, to reasturants with no problem.

Its not the most exciting of cities but for a few days winter sun its fits the bill perfectly.

I went to agadir in November a few years back. Like you I was chasing the winter sun but unfortunately, it was freezing with a really biting wind. Ended up wearing the jeans and jacket I'd flown in all week! It's a very strange place tbh. The nightclubs are literally full of prostitutes and saudi "sex tourists" , charging extortionate prices for alcohol and drug dealers selling their wares... It didn't feel safe and definitely had a seedy feel. It's not a pretty beach resort, more like weston super mare - with miles of sand and the tide miles out. It's the Atlantic ocean I think, so freezing cold and not possible to swim n the winter months. Food was quite good, with lots of French bistro places. I certainly wouldn't go back again though. Check out el gouna in Egypt instead - really hot weather but might be too far to fly if only going for a week or so. Alternatively, Turkey isn't too far and will be warm in Jan -

I liked Essaouira but not Agadir, but it was about 10 years ago!

runwithme · 10/12/2022 21:57

We went to Essourira in January. DH had to go and buy shorts at a supermarket as it was quite warm. Didn't have the hassle that some get in Marraskesh. Lovely hammans, souks, really nice restaurants.

annlee3817 · 10/12/2022 22:00

We went to Agadir, quite a few years ago now. It was an all inc holiday, but we did pay to do day trips, we did the Atlas mountain tour, trip to a Sukh and to see goats climbing trees, also had breakfast with a Berber family, so all the organised stuff was great. However when we ventured out on our own we were hassled a lot, and weren't comfortable.
