Does this sound like migraines?

After several years of head/neck (and eventually now upper back) pain I've been seen by a neurologist who's certain it's chronic migraines.

My temples are tender and sore to touch. My massater/jaw muscles. Pain behind my eyes. Alot of pain at the base of my skull. Sore and tender neck muscles on either side. Pain from the base of my skull that spreads down (or up!) from my upper back and shoulder blades. The back pain is a recent development after the rest of the pain going untreated properly for years.

So migraine sufferers, does this sound familiar?

After reading up on my symptoms for years i was certain I had occipital neuralgia, but nope apparently its migraines. Can upper backache really be migraine?

Yes. I was on medication for neck and back pain for a few years before realising this was chronic migraine.

I'm now on a successful migraine treatment through neurology (Ajovy injections) and no more neck or back pain. I still get a painful and stiff neck during an attack, but not at all on attack-free days.

When I left the neurologist appointment the other day I was thinking surely it can't be migraines if it includes back ache.. but she was certain.

Wow. Thats incredible. So i do finally have my answers.

Where abouts do you have the Ajovy injections? My neurologist has suggested we do occipital nerve blocks, is that the same thing or similar?

I never had GON injections, but friends did/do and swear by them. I had Botox for a couple of years, 42 injections in the head and neck - they made all the difference, especially to the neck pain.

Ajovy is a once a month injection that I do myself at home, and it's been life changing.

Hope the GON jabs work for you! I find the neck pain makes me nauseous, so it's a huge relief to no longer have that every day.

This is so encouraging, thank you so much.

I've spent so long wondering what was wrong with me and looking into different things, I was even beginning to wonder if I had something malignant going on. The relief to finally have answers is amazing.

Ditto to the neck pain causing nausea, its miserable stuff.

I'll look forward to (hopefully) being pain free 🙂
