New Years Eve party

So we have been invited to a New Year's Eve party. The hosts have young children and have invited us and our children (aged 5 and 7). They have said its drop in from 6pm and there will be lots of families. Was just talking to dh about it and he presumes everyone will arrive at different times but all will stay until midnight as it's a New Year's Eve party. I disagree and think, as they have young children, no one will stay that late and we can leave by 8/9 to get children into bed (they usually are in bed at 7) without seeming rude. Obviously I will check but was wondering what others thought.

I think if it’s young kids they’ll expect everyone to drop in then go home well before midnight

but PLEASE can you stay there until midnight, long after everyone else has gone, while the hosts continually yawn and ask if you’ve got a long journey home etc etc just so we can see the thread from the hosts afterwards “AIBU to expect these people would have left our NYE party before new year?”

Haha I might do that!
